Truecrypt is free open source software which creates a virtual encrypted disk within a file and it can be mounted as real disk. It does not need extracting a file, just mount the disk and access it like a real hard drive or flash drive. It has many cool features like encrypting 2 hard disk in a single file and even if friends asks you to show the password only one disk is revealed and the presence of other disk is not known at all. So it very useful to carry some confidential files and it is portable also, no need of installation. This is a must have software. Give it a try: http://www.truecrypt.org/ and share your experience

i set this up a year ago at one of my clients. He is the boss and the other user is his personal assistant. They have had no problems other forgetting the password a couple of times. They also use PGP for email and finance type information but the truecrypt has worked out great for them.

Yes truecrypt is something different and very convenient to use. The best thing is it does not require extraction before viewing the file. Just mount it and use as a normal hard drive, copy & paste stuffs. And one more thing this is a free open source software.
