What can you do to improve the economy?

So many people (here in the US) are talking about what President Obama can do to improve our economy, without realizing that ordinary people can make the biggest impact on economy. When consumers fear to spend their own money, they adversely impact the US economy. I'm trying to generate a list of helpful ways that I can help improve and stimulate my local and personal economy (and national economy). As for my part, I have resolved to: 1. Buy American made products whenever possible. 2. Open a local business and employ local residents (job creation is essential for improved economy) 3. Make fewer online purchases. When you buy online, your money leaves your local city/state. I plan to buy more things locally, providing that I can find a good price. 4. Improve my education and job skills so that I am more employable and don't have to seek public welfare assistance (in the event of job loss.) I'm trying to help put money into my local economy, not take money out. I can't afford to buy a new car or house or I'd be doing that too. What are you doing to help stimulate the economy? Can you list any possible ways that ordianary people can help to stimulate the US (and local) economy?
