When it's summer, I always think of eating halo halo. It has a lot of ingredients to it. Each summer, my aunt will make her own special halo halo for us. The halo halo has red beans, beans (i dunno what the other beans are called but its larger than the red beans), melon, sliced banana, corn kernel, langka, nata de coco, leche flan, ube, crushed ice and milk. She would let us choose the ingredients we want to eat. We always have problems in refilling the corn kernel though. Everyone in my family loves to eat corn. _

When we do homemade halo halo, ube, leche flan and the yellow large beans will do. I do not want too much ingredients for the halo halo. I think that is the reason why I love Razon's halo halo more than chowking's.

I have a problem in the crushed ice of chowking's halo halo. Most of the time, it solidifies then its very hard to break. _

they've got a good ice crusher now. the ice does not solidify anymore unlike the previous years. the ice take the shape of the halo halo bowl.

oh i miss halo-halo! There are bottled halo-halo ingredients available in some oriental store around here but its not as good and as yummy as the ones I used to have back home. I love everything in it-beans, plantain bananas, nata de coco, leche flan, halayang ube, macapuno and lotsa crushed ice & milk! YUM! I remember my neighbor selling a tall glass of special halo-halo for Php 15, 5 years ago!
I wish there's a sugarfree halo-halo,lol! (I cant eat sweets now because I have blood sugar issues =(
Happy Mylotting.

well 5 years is a long time, i bet my ol' neighbor can no longer sell halo-halo that cheap now... how much is a decent glass of halo-halo now a days in the Philippines?
The bottled halo-halo ingredients sold in oriental stores here cost $3-4. Its good for just 2 small servings. ALl you can find in there are a couple tablespoons of banana,a couple tablespoons macapuno, 2-3 pieces of coconut gel and the whole bottle is filled with beans =( Its up to you to add some more if you want. Honestly the I will trade your Php12 halo-halo with that!! Lol
As for sugar free halo-halo, well, i guess if i will be the one to cook all the ingredients, I can take control of the amount of sugar in it. I can make it as less as possible but not totally sugar free.
Enjoy...cant wait to visit Pinas soon and grab a tall glass of halo-halo!

I love halo halo very much! Now that summer here in Philippines is already felt, I think eating halo halo more frequently is good to feel a relief from the extreme hot weather. My favorite halo halo ingredients are leche flan and banana. I also love corn kernels and of course delicious ube jam. But my number one ingredient is banana. That is why even if there is only banana I do make a banana con yelo. I also prefer a home made more than a halo halo bought in some stores because aside from the fact that you can add more of you favorite ingredients, you can even add more milk and lessen the crushed ice. I can finish two tall glasses of halo halo when I am hungry and craving to eat. I can still recall back in summer 2002 I did sell halo halo in front of our house in the province and a lot told me that my halo halo tastes very good. They even buy everyday and they don't get tired of walking thinking that houses in the provinces are meters and even kilometers away from each other. Anyway I really love halo halo and will never get fed up as long as the weather is hot.

Yes I can eat two tall glasses of Halo halo as long as I am hungry. I will not sell halo halo again because aside from the fact that I am no longer in the province where customers are really easy to please, I can't sell here at home because we are in an apartment, 10th floor in particular. So I don't have a nice location and it is not allowed here. I really miss selling halo halo in the province because I occupied the waiting shed where most people stop to wait for a tricycle. Anyway I will just be thinking of another business this summer as long as there is capital and location.

hi there!
i look at halo-halo as a way to escape the never-ending heat in the philippines. ^_^ unfortunately, the more i eat it, the more my body heats up because of the calories! lol ^_^
i love everything in halo-halo except kaong. i even like the sweet beans they put in it. i once bought a can of those beans and i eat them for dessert. i forgot what they were called... it's been a long time since i last ate halohalo!
but have you tried jollibee's dulce de leche? it's their version of halo halo. i started to love it after tasting the "leche flan" in it, because it reminds me of cold, creamy butterscotch. yum!
serve me halohalo any day. ^_^ i don't mix my halo-halo (despite its name); i eat the ingredients one at a time to savor them. how about you, do you mix it before you eat it?

Oh! I forgot to mention pinipig! Thanks for reminding me! ^_^ I don't put too much dried pinipig in my halo halo. It's a little itchy for my throat. So sad. Anyway, thanks for sharing! ^_^

My mother and I also love bananas. We put lots and lots of banana in our halo halo. My mom, instead of making halo halo, she would just make "saba con yelo" because the only ingredients she'll put are crushed ice, banana and milk. LOL! Thanks for sharing! ^_^

Hello NaomiErin, goo day to you my friend and my kababayan. Well yes! Youre right that when summer times many people here in the Philippines are thinking to eat halo-halo and you are one of them. Hehe... By the me too i really love eating that kind of cool food when the season of summer is on the way. My favorite ingredients, banana, corn kernel, langka nata de coco, beans, sago, crushed ice, ube, leche plan, milk together with the sweet sugar. Well all i can say is i really love eating that kind of foods.
By the way here in the Philippines, there is so many DIABETIC which their sugar in there body was too high. Which causes them not to eat sweet foods that having a great amount of sugar. Halo-halo having a great amount of sugar in order for this to be more delicious, that's why many diabetic do not eat halo-halo. . . But other Filipino here in our country spending a big amount of money just to try a new kind of taste halo-halo in some other good and elegant resturant because trying it will make them to be happy. We all know that most of the filipino loves to eat that's why when the topic is all about to food they feel hungry as the same time. . . Hehe... Well that's all my response to your discussion. I hope i give a very good response to your nice discussion. Happy posting and happy earning! ! ! Good luck to our earning career here in this site mylot. . . Mabuhay =)
