"You Look Familiar"

So the guy at the register decided to give me a ten percent discount for my purchase (a new pair of jeans!). I did not ask for it but of course, I said "oh wow, you didn't have to" and smilingly thanked him profusely. He, then, said "You look familiar. Have I met you somewhere?" and pointed to his name tag and said "My name is ...." And I said "Uh, I don't think so. You don't look familiar at all." And left with my purchase. Does that line work for a lot of guys? Or did I think too highly of myself and assumed he wanted to know my name? Did I lead him on by smiling while thanking him? I love my jeans, by the way.

Hi anne! Who cares! If he wanted to give away a a ten percent discount and get nothing in return, I hope he enjoyed your smile! What a jerk! So I would say that he tried, but failed! I do hope that he is allowed to just give merchandise away like that! If not, he will have alot of explaining to do! I think you should just enjoy your new jeans and be happy that he is so "generous"! Maybe that's the stores way of getting customers to come back???

He was generous! A discount is a discount! I don't think he was a jerk though. I think I will wait to go back to that store again. Not just for what happened but for budgeting purposes as well. But I believe that I do deserve those pair of jeans and my other purchases yesterday. Thanks, Opal. I hope you're doing well over there? And less freezing?

Was there supposed to be a link with the clichéd lines? I got me one of those "skinny" jeans. What sold me to it was that it was "short"... It ended just right where it should and I am happy with it. Thanks, mimpi.

You got the discount, you liked the jeans and at the end of the day you have a good laugh remembering the incident of the person asking your name. What more could you ask for ?

Good that you got 10 percent discounts. Some people use this line while sometimes some faces looks familiar. It had happened to me that I had seen lots of faces that looks like I know them for many years yet I know that I am seeing the patient for the first time. Sometimes when some people smile at us, we might feel that we have met the person before in our life.

I would agree with the smile comment, ajithlal. I sure did genuinely smile at him when I found out what he was doing. Thanks for the response.

Jeez SaintAnne, control that big head will ya! I dunno, maybe it wasn't a line at all and he really did feel as if he knew you from somewhere? Him going to the effort of pointing to his name tag like that, kinda makes me think he was genuine on that front. Anyways, if it WAS a line, it's a lame one! Next time, ask them if they're the dude with the tattoo of Lassie on their butt and then watch 'em backtrack! Enjoy the jeans too and stop flirting with register dudes for God's sake. You'll ruin their chances of getting "Employee of the Month" if ya keep leading them on and you sure as heck don't want THAT on your conscience do ya?

I had a similar experience many years ago. I had gone to an opticians shop to get a pair of spectacles made. As i was waiting at the counter a man walked into the shop and addressed me familiarly by a certain nickname, which wasn`t mine of course. however i smiled back and waved to him as he was entering into the owners cabin. I asked the counter salesman who he was and he said he was the owner of the shop. A little while later as i was about to leave after processing my order the same guy came aout and coming to me patted me on the back. I told him that i wasn`t the person who he thought i was and he too realised his mistake after seeing me close up. However he was delighted to see an almost similar carbon copy and he told his sales man to give me a 50% off on my order. I told him there was no need but he said if i had been his pal he would have given it for free and since i was his duplicate he would be happy to give a fifty % discount. I thanked him for his kindness and left smiling.Of course i never went there again as idid not want to take advantage of the situation. Being someones copy does pay sometimes. doesn`t it?LOL

Well, in my case, it paid ten percent of what the jeans was supposed to cost. I hope you enjoy wearing your glasses, veejay. Thanks.

Do You use that place often? Sounds like He'd decided to give you the discount anyway before anything that could be construed as flirtatious had taken place..unless the discount was his opening move in the game! Not having been there,I can't say what happened, but coming out with the old "You look familiar" Line was a definite flirting tactic..nice that you got the 10% for nothing!

well that i don't surely know--men always use pick up lines and sometimes pretty obvious but that line is very old to use..somehow you can determine on how the words are delivered, see if the man is just flirting and sometimes you can also see if he is quite confuse when he is saying that..sometimes it can happen that a person can look seemingly familiar or does look like someone you met or knew..

Work it girl! Good for you get the friends and family discount. That is what you get for being such a beautiful person... Good Karma! I'm glad something good happened to you... you deserve it. I'm sure you aren't flattering yourself... Mr. Jeans was trying to get your name... guess he wasn't smart enough to read it on your credit card. Men ... lol!

LOL. Can you believe I don't have a credit card? I pay with my debit card. I get paranoid that if ever I get one, I might end up charging more than I should and end up paying for it the last half of my life. Thanks, glords. I hope all good things are happening your way as always.

It is usually he knows my kids or a family member and has seen me but I just don't remember him because I have a bad memory! Well, If you did get hit on enjoy the feeling I can't even remember the last time a guy hit on me thinking I looked good! Ha Ha **Peace and Love get's you through everything in Life**

Well it is a win win situation for both of you.He has not lost anything. If he had some ideas in mind well it was a good try.If it was a genuine question too he got the sincere reply. And you have gained a jeans.

Well I don't know what to say. It seems if he really thought you looked familiar he would have asked before giving you a 10% discount, seems like he just wanted to flirt. Don't want to say that for sure though as I wasn't there so I don't know. I guess you got a 10% discount though, and he may have gotten in trouble for it! lol! That's bad if he did, but if he was flirting he learned his lesson, now didn't he?

You are very lucky you were given a discount! But it seems that the jeans you bought was not sold with a discount because you refused when the guy offered it to you. Basing from that statement I guess the guy just used the words "you look familiar" in order to catch your attention and eventually introduce himself with you. Maybe he was attracted to you and you should feel proud of that. But you did the right thing when you told him the truth that he don't look familiar to you. Guys must always know that not all famous lines will work will all girls. In case he really know you then he should have insisted but maybe that is really just a power line. Maybe he really just wanted to know your name when he said that. Anyway it is always good to be honest and never let words of others fool you.

I get this all the time from both men and women young and old. I have kind of a public life and some people really do recognize me from someplace they have seen me work or from school or a social gathering. Some people just think I look like someone they know. It is possible the guy was hitting on you but it is also possible you remind him of someone. Smiling at someone who has been nice to you in some way is the polite and appropriate response. You were surprised and thrilled. Had you flirted with him with no intention of dating him that would have been another story. Wear your jeans in good health.

It is the strategy of many men just to catch attention to the girl they are attracted to, or the girl they want to know. It depends on the facial expression and when u think he just want to play then i think your reaction is just right and what you did is ok at least he know your not that easy.
