Its been a rough couple of years for my family and I. My oldest daughter was diagnosed with Colitis, then we were told it was misdiagnosed, and now have to have more test run. I had a botch surgery and almost died, from it. It has been really rough, because my recovery was a long process. I have started to feel stronger in the last few month but the economy sucks, so finding a job right now in the area I live in is almost impossible. I also home school my kids. My girls do go to a charter school two days a week, but they are home bound the rest of the time. So that too makes me limited when I can work. I have sold things out of my home in the past to make ends meet. But with the crash in the economy, it started costing me more to run my business that what I was making. Which also had a lot to do with me almost dying. Even knowing that everything that surrounded me having to stop working even from home, wasn't my fault. That I had to give it time, it was still very depressing to me. I have always been a hard worker, and now I am limited on what I can lift. It made me feel really bad about it. About a month ago, my daughter's grandmother came to me and my husband and asked us if we would help her with her properties. She hired a property manager when her husband passed to take care of the properties. They have always made money off of them and they have many around town. All the sudden, with all the fees they kept adding on, she was having to pay them money out of her pay check in order for them to keep the properties. She did this for a while, but decided enough was enough. A couple of the properties have been empty. One of them has fallen into bad shape, and the other, though not in the best of neighborhoods, is a really nice house, the best in that neighborhood, and in the better part of it too. It is located downtown, and the property manager couldn't keep it rented. So this week we got procession of the vacant properties, the rest we take over later today. I am a person who networks a lot with people. In the last couple of years, I have used them skills to track down people from my child hood that I hadn't seen in years. I also know a bunch of people who love downtown and want to see it revitalized. Because of these connections, I was able to get the house rented out with-in thirty minutes of the keys being turned over to me. The best part about it is, the person is a downtown dweller, loves being close to everything that happens in our town. He also lived at his last place place for 8 years. Grandma is happy about it and so I am. I finally feel useful again outside of my home. I am also gonna be paid for the work I do and for helping with them. The best part about it, is that my whole family will be working together on different projects, and I hope it brings us closer together as a family. I know the extra money is gonna take a lot of stress off of us. The medical bills about killed us. I haven't felt this useful for a while, and didn't even realize until last night, I have been feeling really depressed and haven't been happy here lately because of that feeling, like I am not contributing enough to the financial need of our family. That feeling went away last night, as I showed the place, and he wanted it. To make this a valid discussion; What are you doing to earn extra money in tight economic times? Are you just doing things online to make extra money? Or have you started looking for odds jobs that you can do for others?

Wow. I'm sure those experiences will bring together you and your family, and will make you stronger as a family (and even as individuals). I wish you guys the best of luck for the future. And in response to your questions..Thankfully, the economy hasn't really affected me all that much, but I try to use sites like myLot to make the difference.
