Rice or Bread?

I am an Asian and rice is our staple food. I do eat bread at times but it doesn't seem to fully satisfy my hunger. All my meals have rice and sometimes I even eat rice for snack (leftover viand and rice).
How about you, are you a rice eater or a bread eater?

Hello Bubbletush, nice to hear that you like to eat rice even as a snack with food of course. Rice is the staple food of most Asians and to compare rice from bread is really a different story because we will never be satisfied with just bread alone, we will still look out for rice to eat.
Here in India where i find the most delicious, aromatic rice of all. It is called Basmati rice. When i was in Philippines, i was lucky to find a 5 kilo pack of Basmati Rice sold at Market Market but the price was Php 600.00 (around $12.50) for just 5kilos. The grains are long and (buhaghag)and really aromatic in smell, you will know someone cooking Basmati if it smells like you are cooking Biko.
Although here in India, they also eat bread as part of their meal. My Mother in Law prepares Chapatti or roti to go well with Chicken curry. Most of their breads here are made from wheat flour, very nutritious and heavy in the tummy. Happy Mylotting!

wow that rice is so expensive! Oh yes, I eat rice (bahaw) for snack and even eat rice with pancit (some of my friends find eating rice with pancit weird). You've mentioned prata, that's one Indian food I truly loved and the spicy curry sauce. I've tasted that in Singapore at an Indian store and I really loved the taste and the generous serving of the curry sauce. Too bad I wasn't able to taste the fish head in curry sauce. I was told this dish is also a must try.

Same here bubble! Bengalees are know for their rice and fish curry and I cannot do without it. Even though I have eaten full my mom would insist that I eat some rice because she still thinks the meal is not complete without it. Its a custom here to offer food (rice, fish, vegetables, lentils...) when someone you know comes over your place during meal time and trust me without rice its not complete!
I love all variety of preparation with rice and can eat it anytime just as you.

You've mentioned fish curry, that's one dish I regret not being able to taste. I was told that fish head curry is a must try!

Hi Aweins! Like you, I also love to make fried rice out of the leftover. Although I am not a full pledged vegetarian, I also love to put veggies on my fried rice or have vegetables or fish or chicken to go with my steamed rice.

I am a bread eater. I eat rice too but I like the taste of bread better. I like to eat bread with butter. I also ate bread with jelly before. But I like to also eat bread plain. I love to eat garlic bread and bread sticks. I can eat two loafs of bread in one sitting if I was hungry enough.

you are indeed a bread eater! I have tried eating half loaf of bread when I was very hungry and no rice available. But I do not think I could eat two loaves

I grew up in a country where rice is like the main course for the meal, with viand of course.. Just like you. And like eating bread would be fine with me, as long it would be like clubhouse or a doubledecker type of sandwiches. But like just plainly bread, like the pan de sal, or a slice of loaf, I don't think I can get by with that. I mean literally I can, but I don't I get fully satisfied with it. I mean I need a real deal of food to have the feeling of, "Man, I'm so full!"

I prefer rice over bread for meals but I like bread for snacks. I couldn't eat rice for snack because I tend to eat more when I eat rice :D And since I'm cutting back on calories, I try to avoid eating rice which is kinda like avoiding to want to eat too much!
Thanks for the response on my discussion!

Hello bubble! I am a rice eater too. Filipinos have rice in every meal. I even won't be satisfied with what I eat if there's no rice on the table. We often eat bread though but usually it's for breakfast and snacks..

for me I still prefer rice maybe because I am used to it. I can take only bread as the main meals but not will not give me much energy. Even though I prefer rice but I cannot take to much because if to much I will feel sleepy.
