Previously I had picked the San Antonio Spurs to win the championship even though Im a Houstion and The Rockets are my home town basketball team.
But I thought that again the San Antonio Spurs would rise to the occasion and win again. They have Allstars and Olypmians, Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobli. They have excellent role players in Michael Finley, Roger Mason and Kurt Thomas off the bench and many more valuable players.
But there is something about the chemistry in the air that reminds me of The Houston Rockets second championship team. There is a chemistry that the Rockets are building that tells me when it counts that this team will be there.
Lets start that they have been injured and jostling lineups all year and that their third seed in the west and they have Yao Ming.
For anyone who still doubts Yao Ming I believe this is the year he breaks through and proves his worth. Just like when the Rockets have HAkeem you will see a dominant and almost unstoppable big man down low with a competive desire.
Just like with the addition of Clyde Drexler, Ron Artest provides a competive energy and leadership that keeps them fighting.
Aaron Brooks and Kyle Lowry will provide a miniversion of Kenny Smith and Sam Cassell. They keep things moving and will not allow the Rockets to be outran. I believe both will grow up in their decision making and leadership in the playoffs.
The Role players are the key. Battier, Landry Wafer, Scolia and Mutumbo and Chuck Hayes provide the energy and chemistry by knowing their roles and often times providing the winning edge. Just like Chucky Brown, Mario Elie and others they provide that extra ingrediant.
One other things after running in the stands midway through year warrior Vernon Maxwell was sat down and a trade was made for Clyde. This year Ron Artest takes that role.
I believe this is the year you will see the Rockets return to the championship.
