after death, the soul of man go back to earth..is this true??

i sometimes heard it from my grandmother's story that human beings in this land will just passed by, but their spirit/souls will remain here forever. if this is true, why do some people say that the spirit/soul of those who died already has two destination, it's either be in heaven or they will be in hell. meaning, they won't go back to this land again.. i am just wondering about this subject because some people also really insisted that there are lots of souls in the sorroundings and if they have not given justice, they wre the one who give justice for themselves through possessing other people.. which among the two is true? do they really go back to earth after death??
