I write for both these sites but prefer Helium. The main reason is that I get upfront payments there for most of my articles so my earnings are greater. With AC I dont qualify for these upfront payments as I am from the UK so cannot make as much money there. I still use AC though as the payout is so low so can be reached eveyr month with just page views alone. However I make 8 times more in page views a month with Helium, probably because I have more articles there and they also rate higher in SERPS compared to AC articles

I've heard a lot of say that AC should pay upfront outside of the US. This could be why many writers choose not to write for AC. Or at least why many prefer Helium to AC.

vu3nnn,
I was not aware that Helium did that. Did they do that to you or someone you know? Has anyone else had that experience with them?
That is a very shady practice. If you meet the star criteria that they have set forth than you should get paid just like anyone else.

At least AC is honest about not paying upfront to non-US writers. Helium entices non-US writers, especially from India and Philippines and once they've written some quality articles blocks their account saying "writers from some country do not have an optimal writing experience..." whatever that means. I am still to discover whether they actually pay for the work done before the account gets blocked.

As international writer, I'm not qualified for upfront payment from AC. So I write for Helium and post the same article in AC for Display Only.
Both sites are very different.
In Helium, you have to write to a title and your "baby" will have to compete with all the articles in the title. For a newbie, that's the best way to learn. The article will be submitted to the ranking system, ranked by all Helium writers.
As Helium writer, you are expected to rank articles. It forces you to read and analyze between 2 articles.
From a reader's perspective, the first few paragraphs are very important, most of us don't read the whole article but we do read the first few paragraphs and form our opinions. In reality we select books by the almost the same criteria, by reading the front cover and back cover.
AC doesn't have ranking and rating system, and writers are free to write anything they want, choose their own titles (sometimes AC will change the title to appeal to readers), and post the articles under 3 topics.
AC will also review the articles, reject some articles and ask you to rectify it and re-submit. For newbie, the first article may take up to 2 weeks to approve.
AC payment method is very easy to understand, since it's by upfront (for US residents) and page view ($1.50 per 1000 page view).

It is a good strategy to post you Helium articles on AC and earn from the pageviews. Especially since you can not get upfront payments from AC.
Helium is a good place to place your articles if you want to see how they measure up against others. It is a good learning experience and will help us write better in the future.
I like rating articles but sometimes it is difficult to pick between two articles. Sometimes the articles both have several obvious flaws and it is hard to decide which one is best. Then there are times when both articles are really good and it is difficult to rate one better than the other.

i am a member of associated content. i have been writing articles on that site for more than a year now. so far, i received a little over $10. but it pays even by little amount. i am not keen on huge amount of money, but on the delivery of payment whether small or not. ac delivers its promises. i have yet to discover helium. i hope i can write there too.

I have had more success with AC than with Helium but many people have told me that they prefer Helium. I guess it depends on the writer.
The good thing about Helium is that the titles are already chosen for you. You just pick one you want to write and start writing. That is useful if you have a hard time deciding what to write.

I prefer Helium because I can get upfront payments, daily revenue and I can submit to publishers writing assignments, all on one site.
I am also in the UK and it has taken me a year to build up a good list of articles at Helium. I also maintain rating stars and writing stars, so I get all the benefits from the site.
Helium has been paying me every month for many months now. My daily earnings are increasing as I keep adding new articles, for which I get upfront payments, and for some I get an additional empty titles bonus.

That is awesome that you make payout every month!
It does take some time to build up a lot of articles. The payoff is good in the end.

I will have to check out AC. I will let you know which I think is the best. I recently signed up with Helium so I am still waiting to see how that truns out.
