Hi guys,
have u ever faced situation like this,
have u ever got work (a work assigned by ur boss or any senior person) other than ur profile ??
if yes ?? then were u did that or u refused to do that ??
if u refused then how u tackle that situation.
yes i can uderstand we can do work other than our profile of working, but how many days can u tackle this ??
as am a software tester my profile is testing software's and forwarding bugs to developer. but now my boss have assigned me a data entry job which has been asked by one of our client. but i did it i entered around 3000 records manually. but now this work is out of my working profile and am not a data entry operator so now to do it more i refused it.
so wat u think assigning anyone such work is ok ?? or there should be certain limit for such woks ??
guys am desperately w8ng for ur reply.

Hi! At the rate things are going with our economy globally, I think there's no reason for us to reject whatever work our bosses assign to us, lest, we will suffer the consequences. It could also be a ploy wherein your original services as a technical expert or you yourself is no longer needed by your boss, hence, giving you a much lower position just to "irk" you into giving up your job. I also experienced this but it was politically motivated. Imagine, from a supervisory job, I was given a clerical job. It's not easy to accept at first,I cried and felt depressed for almost two years but, being the head of the family and only one working, I have no other choice but to accept it as it is not easy to land a job these days especially here in my country, the Philippines. On my third year, I fully adjusted to my new assignment and tried my best to love it. My only enemy here aside from my boss is my hurting ego and pride, but, as they say, these can not feed a hungry family. What is important in the meantime, is that you get compensated for it. If you really can't accept it, then, try to find other jobs that best suit your qualifications, but, mind you, don't ever resign yet until you get a better job.

Hi, dange_amit! Well being that this not your actual profession. The best thing to do is to try to learn it. And if it dosen't work for you at all, then you may need to give this job up. But, it is great that you are learning a new skill, this can be an extra plus down the road. It is good to have experience under more than one profession. Take care!

hey cream
cream i think i should give for this job. as because if ur not learning in ur field of work/ interest then learning irrelevant things makes u desperate. and data entry can did by any unskilled person too.
Thanks a lot for ur comment

You just can say yes I will. Then you have to learn it yourself and then do. The net result will be good in long run. But you can't do within time line.better ask him that you need necessary training and without it you will not be able to do it or is difficult to do.

Hi Amit, I think you should have done the job and should have taken additional pay.
Its good to know more things but on other side if you have your job pending and cant do the other job, its right to refuse it.
If you dont have any work pending and you can do the other job should accept it but ask for the reward. hope i am clear. enjoy my lotting

Hey yogesh
i did the work without a reward. and he is not going to pay me any extra penny for the same. and as another project going to discuss with developer but am not getting in involved in it coz i have data entry work in hand. and i think this not a proper way of working.
if still we accepts i dnt have any work to do. i have to do whatever assigned to me in mean time. agreed for it for some time. but how much u can tackle the same as u dnt like to do data entry and still ur boss ask you to do.
this is just like if someone dnt like to eat nonveg still u r forcing him to eat it. and as u also know this is not right.
Thanks a lot for ur comment.

If that work would please your boss and is not against your self respect, then it is okay to do it.Did your boss pay separately for that data entry job?If so,then it is extra money and it shall be counted for.But if it doesn't pay and you didn't like it,then you have all the rights to put your foot down refusing.Cheers!

Hello dange_amit, I think you have the right to question the job being handed to you if you have not being doing it before. It's good that you still entered around 3000 records manually. If I were you, I would only enter about a handful, and then raise the question to my boss -- especially if my current workload will be affected. Also, if it does not fit your job description or the work that you applied for as stated in your company's working contract.
You can also open up the communication lines with your boss. Nothing works better than having a heart-to-heart talk with your superior so you may be able to raise matters that would be essential to enhance your work relationship. If you refuse to face the situation, eventually this will create a strain in your employee-boss relationship so it would be better to look at the situation earlier.
