Do you tend to get cranky more on summer days?

I do. They say the heat gets in your head. You get uncomfortable and of course you get irritated with the little things that you normally don't give a frack about. I guess this is the main reason why we chose to live here in Baguio. I can't stand the heat in Bulacan (that's where we used to reside) during summer. Although it is way cooler here than in most parts of the country right now, you can still feel the summer heat. It's not as cold as it used to be, a few years back. You can tell that we pretty screwed up in caring for our environment because of the extreme temperatures that we're experiencing as of late.
So there. Back to my question. Now that summer is here already, have you observed that you get crankier more often?

Yea, occasionally I do. I think it has to do with the heat. I am really concerned with it this year because I have started through the change in life and have started having hot flashes even when it's 30 degrees outside, I'm running through the house, wearing shorts and a sleeveless t-shirt and begging my husband and kids to put on a coat and let me turn the heat off and the air conditioner on!
All I can say is Thank God for the swimming pool in my apartment!

I can promise you that as soon as the pool opens May 1st, that is where I will be as often as I can fit it into my schedule. I cannot wait. I keep telling my husband we need to go look for new pool toys! It's been too long since we had access to the swimming pool every day so we don't have anything anymore.

Well, when i was still working as a teacher... the heat would certainly go to my head... noisy kids and very hot weather do not mix well... now that i have a quiet work in the office... i don't get that cranky anymore... when it is really hot... i just turn on the AC... but if i can still bear it... i just use the electric fan...

even if it isn't hot, teaching kids (especially stubborn ones) can really make you hot.

i don't get cranky during summer days. but one thing that makes me irritable is that when i go to mall, there are plenty of people that are just there, walking and walking and walking, until you get bumped by one after the other. its kinda irritating, you can't walk without being bumped, and you can't shop nicely.

i guess everyone during summer has the same idea about the mall being the prefect place to cool down and watch people. it's too bad that they are just walking around though, and not buying anything.

I think I'm the opposite, I think I get crankier in the winter, because its cold and I'm stuck in the house, I can't go outside and do things like I can when its warm, plus the days are darker and gloomier looking in the winter too. Its starting to get warmer here, and I'm feeling pretty good, its good to get out and do things.

it's okay if it's only warm, like in your place. here it's sticky hot, like hell. as one other member pointed out, you can fry an egg on the car hood with the heat. so imagine. it's stifling.

Hey Kaye! I do think that you are right about people being
a bit more kranky in the summertime! When the weather is
hot people do seem to be a bit more bothered by the heat. But,
I live in NY and we have had a really cold winter and that
made people cranky too! So I guess you could say that we
really are never happy with the weather unless it suits us
perfectly like in the spring or fall!

I notice I am alot crankier when its hot. I get headches and all sweaty. Plus I think my biggest thing is the kids are out of school so I am definently crankier.

Well I do not get cranky about the weather but I frequently complain about how hot it is. But generally I would not think about it as much as I could not do anything about it. So I just go by the day and before the day ends everything will be a bit cooler.
Well I guess Baguio's population is increasing that is why there is also a corresponding increase in temperature. More and more people do visit that place during this period so I guess the influx of people going there could somehow affect that climate there. But still it is far more cooler there at this point in time.

My mood improves drastically during the summer months! So much so that I sometimes think that I have SAD (seasonally affected disorder). I suppose it has a lot to do with where you live and what sort of weather you're used to. Here in the UK it's rainy and miserable for a lot of the time, so I guess we just really appreciate any sunshine that we get. It does occasionally get very hot, which can be uncomfortable for sure, but as it doesn't happen very often it still makes me happy to be able to be outside and not have to wear a ton of clothes.
It's just starting to get a bit warmer now, as spring has come, and it makes us hopeful that summer will be here soon. I hope you manage to find some shade, and some relief from the heat.
Btw. I love your avatar. Your daughter is soooo cute!

SAD. there's one way of putting it. i think i'm (okay, I have) SAD too
the nights are not as bad, and the heat here is waaay tolerable than in some parts of the country. it can get as hot as 4o degrees centigrade where I used to live. augh.
i was about to change my avatar to something more current. she's ten months now and i think the current one was when she was six months. i hope you'll like the new one. you can see some more pictures of her in my profile

you know what, it's kinda different with me.. I get cranky during the colder days because of my sweating.. or dryness of skin.. during those times my hands are so dry and hard.. looks or feels like a grater LOL.. during summer I love it because my hand sweats more..
oh by the way.. welcome back LOL

the only time I get cranky from the heat, is if i get too hot while i'm at work. Like today, the air conditioner is on the fritz, and the machines we used got it to 80 degrees, and we have to wear protective gear and do alot of physical activity....uuughh , no fun.
But, I am looking forward to days of splashing around in the pool and bar-b-queing on the grill. Here it's still pretty chilly (we only had a high of 45 degrees) but I think the seasons are starting to change and spring will soon be here.

I tend to get more cranky on hot and humid days. It is harder to breath when the air is humid, and there is no relief on cooling off, unless you have and air conditioner. We have all 4 seasons. When it gets hot and humid out I don't feel as well, so that adds to the crankiness. We have several months before summer gets here. We are just having our first day of spring.

To be honest, it is quite the opposite with me. I am able to withstand plenty of bright sunshine and high temperatures, even humidity. But when it gets cold and damp in winter, that is when I get cranky and irritated.
I suppose it must have something to do with our individual abilities to withstand heat, and also from where we hail. Since I am originally from South Asia, heat, sunshine and high temperatures do not bother me. In fact I was fine even when I was in the UAE during August - which is one of the worst summer months for that place!
Guess we each are different in some ways :)

I always thought my crankiness in the summer was due to the fact that I am working all summer! After all these years, I am still jealous of all the kids on summer break! Haha! But I do live in HOT HUMID Florida, so maybe the heat thing is true and is just making me care too much! LOL

Hi, kayedanda! Yes, if I am very hot, I will get cranky. That is the only time. I get cranky during any season, regardless of the climate. If something upsets me, I will get cranky and frustrated. I can't stand the heat either. I am hot natured, and if I am hot too long I will get tired and irritated.

Summer is definitely here and it's so much hotter here in Manila. You've just taken a bath and yet you still feel the need to go back and just stay under the shower LOL. I guess it's natural to be cranky when you are uncomfortable so I always try to be cool myself lots of time during the day. I think we can expect the weather to get hotter.

I live in an area in America called Alabama where it gets pretty hot during the summer. As a matter of fact we don't even get much snow if any. Spring can get it's start as early as January.
Well, I don't mean that spring starts in January but the temperatures can start heading toward 70 degrees pretty early in the year.
The answer to your question about getting more cranky during the summer days is a definite yes.
I think that a lot of people go through that. I myself am a little more sensitive. Heat and humidity and me don't go together too well.
I just feel more irritated and don't want to be bothered sometimes. As long as there is air conditioning I am usually alright!

I don't get cranky during the summer months, there is to much to do outside. If I need let off some steam I go for a run or hike or ride my 4 wheeler. Now in the winter time, I can't get out as much. I think I get cabin fever sometimes. I really hate sitting around in the house all day.
Now that summer is closer I feel a lot better during the days.

I am definitely more happier in the summer than I am in the winter. I am more crankier in the winter because I feel trapped inside. At least on summer days you could be outside. I guess the heat does get to me sometimes but I would still rather the summer than winter
