Although Islam does not preach any divisions, Muslims have divided themselves into various groups based on certain ideological and fiqh (legislative) differences. The two main divisions are Sunni and Shia, and there are many sub divisions among both Sunnis and Shias. For example, Sunnis usually call themselves Salafi, Deobandi, Barelwi, Shafi, Maliki, Hanbali, Shafi etc. Shias are divided into Zaidis, fivers, twelvers.... Which group do you consider closest to the correct path and why?

Islam don't says any division itself. Prophet Mohammad pbuh recieved the last edition of revelation manual from the Almighty God and shown the way. Follow the manual of God -Quran- and the practices of Prophet Mohammad as per God's commands. If you have enough knowledge you yourself wont go for the division, you can be a good Muslim on following those things. Listen from all groups, check whether they are correct with the original source of proofs, think yourself and decide what and all to be done. You can work with any group you identify that is more close to the actual Islam, but don't lend your brain for the group. Group working can achieve some better results under a society. For your own beliefs just don't trust blindly any one who known to be a scholar before you confirm them with proofs. If a Muslim study Quran well, and think neutrally can understand which path should one follow, those who don't bother Quran much quarrel for the groups. May almighty God guide us to the right path.

I am not a Muslim but I can tell you that every body is on the correct path as long as he cares for the fellow human beings. As are the faces so dissimilar so are the minds my dear, therefore everybody tends to think differently and hence the divisions!
