What do you think about being religious? Following a certain set of ritual like going to a temple/church, fasting and many other things prescribed makes you religious or just being good and helpful to other human beings/all living beings makes you religious.

I am not a very religious person but I believe every ritual had its root in some benefit for mankind. Most of them are now wrapped in superstition and blind faith so many like me skip these. However, fasting is something I know is definitely beneficial to the body. So the ritual of fasting on certain days is to be followed more for health than religion.

Fasting is good for health I agree, But I do not agree that every ritual has a reason behind it.

Rituals do have reasons behind them. However, many of these reasons date back to pagan times and people have forgotten why they do them. They might not do them if they knew they true meaning of them. The incense used in the catholic church is an ancient pagan cleansing ritual that was incorporated to bring in pagans to the church, for one. The rite of baptism is also an ancient pagan purifying rite. John the baptist did not invent that one. Shalom

i consider myself spiritual I try to follow Christ but not organized religion since i know sitting in a church will no more make one a christian than sitting in a garage will make you a car .it is a personal relationship with Jesus himself that does it many hypocrites sit in churches every Sunday many so called laws in churches are man made anyway Jesus would not recognize most of them heck many of todays churches would ban his entry due to thier dress code

Jesus Christ is the only Incarnation who distributed nothing but love all His life, though I am a Hindu, I have great reverence for Him. You are right.

Being good and helpful to other human beings and all living beings makes you good and helpful to other human beings and all living beings. It does not make you religious. You can only be religious if you take an active part in the life of a religious community.

Being spiritual is a very important part of life. However, the family feeling of being part of a peaceful solemn religion is also very important to me. If you follow the Mitzvot of the Torah, you will live a good life without consciously working at it. You don't have to spend hours in a house of worship or fast all the time. You just follow G'd's word. Shalom~Adoniah
