I frequently come across some very new discussions that already have a best response. How do you feel when you click on a discussion that is less than a day old and the OP has already picked a best response? One of the discussions was only 2 hours old. Only 2 hours and no one else has a chance to get the prize. I find it annoying. Do you think that maybe these people are working in cahoots with friends?

Awarding best responses is a very personal, individual affair and I have no problems with how others do it. I can quite understand that if a discussion is asking a question and the answer is obtained immediately then the best response would be awarded immediately too. I have done that myself. I have also left discussions open for many months before awarding if I feel there is not yet the response I was hoping for. Whether other users award to the friends is there business. I do not do it that way.

As I said, it is very personal. It is also a very personal thing whether to respond if the BR has already been awarded. I never respond anywhere with the hope of receiving a BR but to contribute to the discussion itself. The fact that it has already been awarded makes no difference whether I respond or not. HAppy Lotting!

It is personal, but awarding it immediately is a bit fast. It stops many people from responding. Awarding best response is like closing the discussion in a way. They have already made up their mind, so why bother adding anything to it?

I think that everyone whom starts a discussion should wait a week o rlonger to give a best response out. I think alot of the new people on here have to idea what they are doing and thats probably what is going on. I know yesterday i was trying to explain to someone how to do everything here on mylot and then he gave me a best response and then i said well you shouldnt have done that right away because you just started this discussion not even 30 minutes ago and you need to at least wait a week before giving this to someone. So i think the newer people need things explained to them and maybe better then i did. Enjoy Mylotting

But, in that particular case, maybe you did answer his questions perfectly?

I don't think people need to wait a week, even though I wait a week or two, but at least they should wait a few days. We are all in different time zones and if they start a discussion at least give all zones a chance to see it.

I don't always notice the best response but understand how you feel when a new discussion already has a best response shortly after posting. It won't keep me from responding if I like and understand the discussion. I suppose anything can happen here on myLot as far as friends working together. I prefer to choose the best response according to the response and not who wrote it.

Anything can happen, but some people game the system. I don't always notice best response, but if a discussion is only an hour old with 2 responses also an hour old and one is marked best I do see it.

That may be, but it doesn't really bother me one way or the other.

Guess I better mark your responses "best" so you don't waste your time.

I just move on, but it bothers me that I wasted a few seconds of my time.

I don't have to receive it. I feel I'm wasting my time if the OP has already resolved and dismissed the issue or conversation. Marking best response is like ending a conversation. Sure people can rekindle it, but if it was only a 2 hour, 5 post thread why bother.

What irritates me even more is when I get email notification that there is a discussion, I go there and respond and there is already a best response and it is just minutes old, at least less than 30 minutes.

That is annoying. I don't have anyone who I receive notifications from that does that. Cat people know better.

That is an interesting discussion. I do not believe the best response affects ones earning do they? I do notice a best response is sometimes given early after the question is posted. I seem to usually get a best response after some time has elapsed though. Is it a prize? I have not really notice any earning increase although I am sure things like that can be manipulated.

I don't feel bad. Whenever I see a discussion which has designated or chosen a BR and still interested with the topic, I would still lay down my opinion or response to said discussion. Although, am far with the possibility to have or receive a best response. What matters to me is sharing my views and I earn from it. Of course, the effort though is lesser than responding to discussions which has no BR yet. . Everyone or each one of us has different views on selecting a BR. My criteria is different to yours or there are members here who take months before picking a BR. I am more focused on responding well. If my response has been selected as the Best is just a Bonus of the effort.

I'm the most focused when I think that the person will actually read it.

I do think people should allow at least several hours if not a day before they pick the best response. I don't worry about getting best responses so much but I know it is important to some, since it effects your star rating and could effect how much you get paid. Sometimes I feel like why should I respond since they obviously have the answer they are looking for. It can be a problem.

If people don't respond, the poster doesn't make as much money. Longer thread pay slightly more.

Yes i do see few mylotters like that giving best response within hours.I too think they should at least wait for a day.

Waiting a day is fine. It give people time to find the discussion. A few hours is just to fast, and less than an hour is just ridiculous.

Yeah, at least give people a few days! Some people can't be on 56 hours a day, and it takes some time to read through interesting posts...

I find your question interesting and have thought about this one myself. I would not say that it necessarily irks me or bothers me too much but I do get where you are going with your point. I do have a tendency of still replying to posts with a best response already recorded. Sometimes those best responses were handed out a few days or maybe even a couple of weeks prior when the discussion was first started. There have been some new discussions pretty fresh from maybe a day or so ahead of time and I already see a best response documented. I kind of wish that person that started the discussion might have given it some more time for other responders to see if there was a better piece of advice and such but that is just how the person wants to do their business I guess. When I post a discussion I usually wait a little while to let answers build up and then try to award someone with a best response as best as I can.

I usually don't respond if the person has picked a best response in hours. It doesn't matter about awarding best res ponce, but it's more that I like to post in threads that are longer. Giving out best response stops many people from posting.

I see what you are saying. Once again I don't really think it irks me or bothers me too much when a best response is awarded early on in the posting. I usually like to wait a little while before making a proper judgment when giving out a best reply.

I do that sometimes but only to the class C discussions i made. Meaning, only the discussions wherein i need fast answers. Something which i don't expect a lot to respond. But i don't give the BR as early as two hours. Sometimes it would take a day or at least 15 hours. You're probably right, they may be into something. Well that would be pretty obvious if he or she is giving the same award on the same person let's say like 4 or 5 times consecutively.

I usually try to wait for a week, but then I had someone turn in a fantastic answer later than that, so now I try to wait a month. But I gave a best response just lately to the first answer. I wanted the name of a song that I'd just heard. When it showed up, I was so ecstastic over finding it, I gave it to them that minute. Has nothing to do with friends for me. I choose the best answer. I always hope it will be a friend, but that's not how I choose. I've had a terrible time with some, because there are so many great answers. Then I have to really take a lot of things into account, like how much they wrote besides the great answer. Sorry! I just really wanted the name of that song, it was so pretty.

I wait until the thread stops getting responses. I can understand when you want and answer to a question like the name of the song. There is nothing left to say after someone correctly answers that.

Thanks for understanding. I honestly didn't expect anyone to know the answer, and I desperately wanted it. On the other note. I do try to wait till a thread is done, which is usually within a week. But that one answer I got, that was totally fantastic, came after it had been done for over a month. I felt horrid about not being able to give them best, but I really thought it was done! Just goes to show... Sigh.

When this happens, i look at their score points, when they seem to be newbie to me, i understand them, probably they don't know the way we do things here yet. But since you said you get disappointed, well me too, at least i knew they did not intend that, if they are newbies. But when the post are just new an hour or two, then the host already responded to the best answer and yet he or she was not a newbie, then my friend, i don't want to participate in the discussion anymore, because for me, the topic has been answered and my answer will be ignored only. Not unless again, if i am so in need of points to earn money that i have still answered a query that has been graded already. Happy Mylotting!

It is understandable with newbies. I have seen it happen with old timers who should know that discussions usually last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.
