Weight loss tips for our too fat cats?

Our little furry four legged darlings are just too fat! I figured out if I wet down their dry food it fills them up and they don't eat as much. They drink the water out of the bowl and then eat the soaked food. Also we don't feed them in the daytime, just at night. I do split a can of canned food between them in the mornings though. We try to have plenty of kitty toys for them to play with and we play with the cats too. Do you have any other tips that's worked for you with your cats?

This has worked for the three cats we have now and the two previous to that and the one before that. I look for the best food nutritionally. Right now we use Newman's Own (the one with Paul Newman and his daughter on the package). Now the first thing you might think is that it is expensive but our cats have lived long healthy lives and have never been overweight. There are very few times that we have to take them to the vet. They get a bowl full of dry cat food and plenty of water. They eat as need be. They do not overeat because they are getting what their bodies need. If we feed them scraps, I try to keep in mind to usually feed them meats that they would naturally be able to get in the wild. I can't picture a cat killing a cow or a pig, so we limit this type of meat. They do like chicken and fish a lot and they get small treats of that from time to time. I purchase some fresh growing wheat grass through the winter for them to get some fresh greens if they need it. Our almost 17 year old cat is as spunky as she was when she was young. She keeps the five-year-old female and the three-year-old male in line around here. Her teeth are clean and in good shape. She has no signs of cataracts. Sometimes she is bothered by mouth sores so we give her a little red raspberry tea mixed in with canned food from same manufacturer and they clear right up. All the cats have the most beautiful shiny fur. Our black cat shines so much that he reminds me of a beautiful black stallion. I hope this helps.

well, my cats won't eat wet dry food, they seem to think its gross... what you do need to do is limit how much they take in, my roomie's folks have a fat cat and they cut out the wet food all together and only feed him a small amount of dry - and he's still fat - and active - but fat! now, I have some fat cats, but since I have so many, I have to free feed for the ones who are NOT fat...

I think one of the ways to make the cats lose weight is make them run around and make them play around. When it gets lots of running and exercise, it will lose its weight its own. I think you should make your cat play and run in your yard with you. I don't have any other good tips right now.
