I do really love watching the movie Benhur, though I watch it several times, its appeal to me will never fade. The movie is one of the best movies of Charlton Heston if not the best. This is a story about a Jewish middleclass man by the name of Judah Benhur. Judah Benhur is a man well respected in their society . The time of setting is during the era of Christ.
Judah Benhur is living peacefully in Israel when suddenly a certain incident disturbed his peaceful life. One day, while watching a parade of the Roman officers , he accidentally leaned on a weak part of their terrace that made a piece of block dropped down the head of a Roman centurion. This incident led him to a life of imprisonment. He received freedom when he was able to save the life of a Roman officer with a high position in the govenment while their ship was being attacked by their enemies. He was given the officer's ring as a seal of his adoption as the officer's heir.
There is much more in the story. Its major theme is God's mercy and compassion in the life of Judah Benhur and his family. Though it is not a story about Christ's death and crucifixion, it is a story about the impact of Christ loving touch upon a person's life.
For me the movie is full of impact, it led me closer to Christ , it led me to a deeper thirst to know Him more in my personal life. I highly recommend this movie to deepen your devotion to Christ. Charlton Heston performed excellently in this movie.

I was twelve when Ben Hur came out, and I worked part time at the local theater. I knew when the chariot race would be on the screen, so every night I walked the two blocks to the theater to watch that scene. It was fabulous.
I still love the movie and, as you said, think it is one of the best ever made!

Benhur was a good movie. It teaches us about history and other things. I also learnt that the author, Lew Wallace, started out to prove that entire Jesus thing is a hoax, but later on after having investigated he could not resist the evidences. And finally he ended up making a movie in favour of Jesus.

Yes, It's a real good movie- one of my favorites.
Another one that I really like is "Joseph". That too is a very good movie.

BenHur is one of the best movies ever made. I haven't seen it in years though.

When I was a little girl my mother went to see Benhur. She said we were too little to see it. I was so glad when she described it to me and told me the story. I could imagine what it would be like. When it finally came on TV and I got to see it for the first time, I could not leave my seat.
Someday I would like to have a copy of this film along with "The Ten Commandments" and "The Story of Ruth."

I love Benhur. I first saw parts of it late night on Showcase. And since have actively searched it out, and watched it several times. My favorite line is when the old horse raising Arab says "one god that I can understand, but one wife?" Great show all around though, fulled with morals, and realities of the times.
