Nowadays, even though modern technology surrounds us.....Everyone does his/her work and other calculations on computers, calculators or mobiles. The question arises that why are the children made to learn multiplication tables in school?? made to learn commercial maths like simple interest or compound interest???

Because then the problem would be that no one would know how to answer math problems WITHOUT technology. We wouldn't really have to think for ourselves anymore, the calculator would tell us. BUT The machines are not always 100% correct. And when building a school, high-rise, etc. we need the measurements to be exact or lives are in danger. Yes, you could argue if there was a mistake it'd be due to human error...most times. Therefore it's so much more efficient for the humans to continue their education and be proficient in higher mathematical equations that they can work out on their own. Don't get me wrong, math is not for everyone! I, myself, am not a friend of math! But I do respect it and understand why it's important. Plus, what if you don't have a calculator with you and someone says "hey, what's 8 x 7 ? " Wouldn't be so much cooler to just shout out the answer rather than pull out your calculator and figure it out?

Students need to learn how to do multiplication, not just how to use a calculator. First off, do you really want kids whipping out their cell phones every time math is required in every day life? Knowledge is what keeps our brains active. If we were to just rely on technology, eventually, we'd say "I don't even know how to do multiplication, so why should computers do it?" and thus, math would decompose in society to which it would be of no use. I'm in Calculus, and nowadays, the TI-89 graphing calculator can do in a fraction of a second what it took Isaac Newton (or my professor) several pages and minutes to do by hand, but we are still taught it, because it's foolish to proceed with "It works, so I don't need to understand how."

Wouldn't it be good that they understand how things get computed than just simply using computed results from computers, calculators or mobiles and rely on them too much without actually questioning why they got computed in such a way? After all, such computations are still handled by people and changing some of the values of certain items would certainly change the results that would be otherwise be ignored due to too much dependence on modern technology. Well, that's just an idea.. (^_^")

Your brain is your inbuilt computer and calculator If you won't use it properly it will become obsolete. When there is your own why go out side your body for help Brain should get continuously stimaulated to become strong and help solve other life problems .Learning maths in a misterious way help your brain in developing.

Most likely due to the number of jobs requiring some sort of mathematical formula including a wall street broker ,a mathematician,a chemist, and many more. Most feel that math isn't needed but some people want careers dealing with that area of expertise others use math in there brains because they comprise to be showoffs. I feel that people need to use math with theoretical expressions.
