I have actually been fired a few times and most of them for completely ridiculous reasons.
The worst was the real estate office... I was, for lack of a better title, the desktop publisher. I created and organized the sale packets for the agents for the houses they were trying to sell. They'd bring me pictures and I'd organize them into fliers and brochures...it was pretty fun and I got along pretty well with most of them. But there were a couple who were kind of unpleasant to me, to the other office staff, and to the other agents. Apparently, they thought that I should be perky and cheerful to them even if they were abusive to me. I was as cheerful as I could be given their responses but it was hard.
One day I got called into the owners' office and told that they didn't feel like I enjoyed my job. I wasn't friendly to the agents (two out of 15, although they wouldn't admit that) and I didn't smile. That was it. I asked if they were displeased with the way I was doing my job and they said they weren't, I was good at what I was doing, but they didn't think I enjoyed it so they were letting me go.
About a year later, I talked to the woman who had had the position before I did and she said that there had been six other people (including me) in that position since she quit and she had had exactly one bad boss in all her years of working and the owners of that real estate office were the one.

Technically I was laid off. But only because of the wording they used.
I was working as a hostess at a resturant and the owner called my house phone and told my answering machine that I was no longer needed because they could no longer afford to pay me.
I know that they did this bacause I wanted 2 days off a week instead of just 1. I was working from open to close 6 days a week and we found out that my husband was diabetic, I wasked to have an extra day off a week to help him adjust (I was working from 10am-11pm)
They called me on my day off. December 15th
The good that came out of this is that I am now in school and will be graduating in December. almost 4 years after they did this.
