How do you rate responses?

I generally pick the best response as the one that was most thought out and the most insightful. The comment might not necessarily be one that I agree with but if it's a good comment then I'll give it the best response. Usually the only reason I'll give negative ratings is if writer hasn't taken the time to write in proper English. I.e. bad sentence structure, misuse of vocabulary, tons of misspellings and bad verb conjugation. I don't like having to interpret what I'm reading.

They say that giving ratings to all who respond can help your own overall rating and earnings. I have trouble sometimes with my ratings "sticking." I'll rate someone and then when I go on the page again it doesn't show that they were rated.
I'm guessing that from the time since you started this discussion you have figured out how to rate (and I'm happy for any little plus marks you'd care to send my way!! ), but have you had the trouble I have described?
