My cousin is beaten up by her stepdad.. Violence is never the answer!

I just found out about something that really pisses me off.
My mom told me that one of my cousins confessed to her that her stepdad is beating her up. Worse, her mom (my aunt, my mom's sister) knows about it and pretty much does nothing about it (or else, this will not happen).
To give you a little background: This stepdad is NOT married to my aunt. NOT working. And he is beating her up for no reason. Most of the time, he punches my cousin when she doesn't follow him.
My mom intends to talk to my aunt about this soon.
This is wrong. Violence is NEVER an answer to anything.
What's your take on this?

Same here, report his lazy bum self to the police for not only assault on a minor, but add in child abuse, domestic violence, and report the mother to CPS for allowing abuse to continue without interfering to stop it to get help for her indifference. Does she not care about her own child? I have to wonder, no real mother on this earth would allow this kind of thing to happen under their own roof. This is her child, she should be protecting her child at all costs and not allow this abuse to continue.

This is her child, she should be protecting her child at all costs and not allow this abuse to continue. In my mind, this bum is not a stepfather since he never married the child's mother. He is a live in boyfriend only, who has absolutely no right to lay hands on any child not their own flesh and blood and the mother is a fool for allowing it to happen.
