Which would you rather be deprived of: Food or Sleep?

Philippines

I am such a sleepyhead. For me, sleep is a luxury. I can sleep for 10-11 hours straight. I do not take a nap in the afternoon. Because a nap is just too short for me. Whenever I sleep in the afternoon, it would be from 2pm to 5 or 6pm. But I can manage without eating breakfast or lunch. Well, since I wake up really late, there really is no breakfast or lunch for me. So I'd rather be deprived of food than sleep.

Hello bubbletush! OMG! This is too hard..hehehe..Being deprive with any one of them is not normal. But if you really let me choose, I would say that I would rather be deprive of sleep for one day than be deprive of food for one day. I can't survive without taking in any foods for one day actually and never tried one. I tried to have no sleep in one day, although it's not a good feeling but I survived it.

I deprived myself of any solid food because I could not make myself swallow the food (Lol! Emote mode) but I remember eating a bar of chocolate and lots of water hahaha

I think I remember not having any meal for the whole day at all. I could not exactly recall the reason but for sure it's something that has made me badly depressed I did not have the appetite to eat.

You sound like me. Those naps can ruin a nights worth of sleeping for me. I too can sleep 10 to 11 hours and sometimes more. I get up late to, so breakfast is usually out of the question. Plus I am not hungry when I wake up, so I guess I could do with out the food, but I have always need the sleep. Some people do great on a couple hours of sleep, I can if I have something planned to do. But, I will have to catch up on my sleep sooner or later.

Yes I can wake up a bit earlier if I had to but for sure anytime after lunch I'll feel my eyes getting heavy and as soon as I get home, I'll make up for the hours in the morning that I should be sleeping.

I think I would rather deprive food. When I'm lack of sleep, I get some really terrible headache and I really can't bear it unlike when I'm hungry I can go on with that. Actually, I survived a day without eating. That's when the time I got rebellious at home, it's like a hunger strike or something, lol Though there's also many occasions that I deprived sleep but that's mainly for a very important reason, I would still choose to not eat than to not sleep. Besides, when you sleep, you wouldn't even feel that you're hungry till you wake up, lol

Now that you've mentioned hunger strike, I wonder if someone could pull up a "no sleep strike" for sure, I will not be a successful participant of that.

I would rather be deprived of sleep. I don't tend to be able to sleep a lot, anyway, so I don't think I get enough sleep, anyway. I sometimes get in bed at night thinking what a waste of time sleeping is. I do enjoy my food, though.

I can go on without sleep. I only get 5 hours of sleep maximum by choice. I feel like i am missing a lot when i sleep. Food, well i'm not fat but i like eating. I may not function well without sleep but i may not function more without food. This is a hard question really because these two are the basics for a healthy being.

I'm an internet freak that's why i'm trading off lots of sleeping hours for internet time.

Obvious! I've read somewhere that you access internet on your mobile phone. Well, I can't be a hypocrite because aside from my phone, I also sometimes access the internet via my psp

I sure waste a lot of my time for waking up almost lunch time. But since I am just at home all the time, I could still do a lot of activities the rest of the afternoon until late evening. Compared to those who wake up early and go to the office and sit 8 hours in their cubicle, I think I have more activities because I play tennis on weekdays, I do gardening, I've got my scrapbooking, cross stitching and all those girly stuff.

I would rather be deprived of sleep than food. I can't seem to get peaceful sleep when I am hungry. I am a sleepy head too but food to me takes the priority over sleep. It is also not wise to keep starving for a longer period of time as it is unhealthy. So its definitely some food for me. I can go without sleep for 48 hours and never without food. Have a nice day!

The longest that I haven't sleep is 24 hours and that kept me almost asleep the whole day the following day.

hi bubbletush... Hmmm... I'd rather be deprived of food. I'm an insomniac and I really really (and I mean really) need sleep so if you're going to deprive me of sleep, I think you'll be seeing a real live walking zombie. Lol. Since I'm not a big fan of eating a lot, it's okay if I don't eat three meals a day. With the work that I have, sometimes, I get to only eat once. So I guess I've gotten used to not eating so much. Just please don't deprive me of sleep.

One of the reason too that I sleep a lot until late in the morning is because I too am insomniac. I would normally hit the bed around 3-4am.

Bubble! Please do not give such a difficult choice. Both food and sleep are essential for me and I cannot be without food for long and I cannot remain awake for many hours. However, if you insist that I should choose either of the two. I can forgo my food, however, I need to take some rest to recharge my energies and body. Good Post.

Hi, bubbletush! I would rather be deprived of sleep than food. I lose sleep many times... I have gotten used to it.. But food, I can't be without. If, I don't eat in time, my stomach may hurt. And, I will be shaking like I am nervous.. I guess that is a reaction... I get real jittery, so I need my food to eat!
• Philippines

I have once experienced that shaking thing because of too much hunger! It was when I got off from work really late and haven't eaten dinner, nowhere to buy food and when I arrived home, I also do not have anything ready to eat. That feeling was so bad!

Seriously, it's not easy depriving yourself, sometimes, it makes you feel doing what you shouldn't be doing. But in this case, I think I could work on without food. But sleep, damn I totally need that! Just like you, I can't work for a day without having enough amount of sleep in a day. At least 6 hours. I could also sleep like 10-11 hours, but this actually makes me a lazy bum for the entire day. So rather take the 7-8 hours of sleep. I read in a Yahoo article that, at this age, 6 hours of sleep is more healthy than the 8 hours of normal sleep that we used to know. Same goes with the 8 glasses of water for a day, is now 10 glasses of water for a day is healthier. I take power naps when I feel so tired and exhausted for the day, but I don't usually get this. Well, I can't live without eating at least a meal for a day. Because I sort of have ulcer. And not eating will make things worse for me. But we know there is such thing as we call, 'fasting'. It means 'cleansing' our body and let go of the toxins. So intake of food would be good if not taken for at least 3 days to a week (alright, that's for the total cleansing, someone who is actually into it) but for me, a day would be alright. So, for me, deprived almost everything but not my sleep.. NO WAY my sleep! Lol

no food and just water will make me survive. uber busy days at the office before made me not notice that it's past lunch time. but if i lack sleep because i brought home some work, i feel dizzy the following day.

I need my sleep because I have an illness that I have to rest all the time. I used to tell my mother when I was sleeping do not wake me up unless the house was on fire, and only then after you have called the fire department. My sleep is my medicine. I can go without food most of the day but I cannot go without sleep.
• Philippines
23 Mar 09
Oh I'm sorry to hear that you have such an illness. Yes sleeping is the time where our body is rejuvenated and repaired so it is very important to take the much needed sleep.
• Philippines
22 Mar 09
For me, sleep is very important. So i choose food, because there are times that I don't take breakfast and lunch just to take a nap. I don't know, maybe my system can managed by not taking food. And my day isn't complete without taking a nap.
• Philippines
22 Mar 09
Just like you, there are times when I would tell my mom not to wake me up for breakfast or lunch. I could not give up the hours I can sleep in exchange for a meal.

I could live without sleep for some time, but without food - maybe just 24-48 hours before I collapse!

I would rather go without food if I had to choose. I can deal with hunger to an extent, but going without sleep makes me unable to function very well, so I would rather go without food under most circumstances.

I would rather have a nice food than to sleep too long since I love to eat. I only sleep long if I am totally exhausted especially after a hard days week in the office.

I think one reason why I could indulge in sleeping is because I work from home. So every time I feel like sleeping, I could just go into the bedroom and sleep.
