Dog Allergies?

Does your dog(s) have allergies? I usually have to drug him up with Benadryl many times a day (he's a big dog) just so he doesn't break out and constantly lick himself. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a better way? Please help me if you can.

Have you talked to a vet about your dog's allergies? He may be allergic to grass or pollen, and need to be on something like prednisone during certain times of the year. My Chow would lick his paws raw during the spring. Prednisone really helped, as did making sure he got a Vitamin E or Fish Oil capsule at least once a day. Vitamin E and Fish Oil will help condition their skin and can really help with the itching. I also had an Akita with an allergy to grass (yes, grass). She'd rub her face raw trying to itch her eyes. We never gave her prednisone, but putting her on a probiotic. We used K-9 Challenge M-V-P - http://www.k9challengesupplements.com/. It was amazing the change in her skin after just a month. It might be worth a try!

I have had many dogs that were allergic to fleas and one that was allergic to house dust. We use an all natural supplament called fleatreat that not only fights fleas but keeps their skin and coat healthy. fleatreat.com Also use human grade shampoo with moisturizer. Try working some alovera into the coat after bathing rubbing it into any dry itchy spots on the skin. A couple of tablespoons of olive oil added to their food twice a week also promotes good skin and coat health. If you are using commercial dog food try switching brands. Your dog may be allergic to an additive or wheat gluten in the food.

My dog has terrible allergies. It took me and the vet a while to track it down, but it seems for sure she's allergic to rice, and to something that's in cat food. (She's not fed cat food, but sometimes she'll get into the kitties area and chow down. I have to put the cats food in a secure room with a baby gate just so she can't get into it.) It took many changes of dog food until finding one that didn't make her break out in a rash. Besides getting the rash, she'd also get a huge ear infection with it. Maybe your's has a food allergy too?
