Avast is a good free anti virus which have many module for different kind of threats, but sometime you others applications to clean other type of threats. Each software has each own specialty, it complement each others in the process.
I use Avast as my primary anti virus software, and use other such as sypbot and lava soft adaware to scan and clean spyware and malware from time to time.

Antivirus is worth if installed on our computer. But it doesn't guarantee if it's not updated periodically. I use only one antivirus for virus detecting. For computer safety, i use deep freeze. It returns back my computer settings when it restarted. I created a free partition which not protected with deep freeze for temporary use for new files. After i made sure that files are virus free, then i unfreeze my harddisk to copy that new files and freeze it again when it's done. So far my method is worth. Imagine if when you're working on your important file but suddenly it's infected with a new virus, how worse. But with my method, i only need to restart my computer and everything will come back to the previous clean one. But make sure you have your system free from virus before you install deep freeze.

No antivirus program is 100% in removing them viruses that are attacking the system.
If you are always doing regular maintenance manually, a secondary program is good.
Especially if you have only a antivirus program installed in your system.
A antispyware or antimalware are programs good for detecting spywares and malwares that usually escape the antivirus filters of most antivirus programs on the market, be it freeware or paid licensed version.
Never hurt to have a antispyware program to compliment the antivirus protection you already got on your system.

Hello Friend,
I use several systems....They are ALL FREE to download and the reasons why you need more than one is because they do different things.Avast which is an Anti-Virus software, checks only for Trojans and Viruses...Others like Spybot scan for Spyware/Malware which can not be found by scanning using the anti-virus scans. I learn a lot of information from Kim Komando...she does a lot of research and has FREE downloads to use to keep your computer clean and safe ALL of them are the best on the internet and safe to use...Just search her name and you will find her web site!!! Hope this helps...God bless

If you want to removing virus. I think we need to take several factors into account. on the one hand, you'd better not go to the site, where you have never gone! on the other hand, you need only one good softeware to protect from virus. such as Kaspersky.
If you have two softwares, one of the them may consider the other software is a virus, them will make your PC more slowly. do you know that?
good luck!
welcome to my page!

I don't think we need to have more than one. I think you only need one good one to use.

Running two virus programs at the same time can slow your computer down although that is not always the case. Some programs don't play well together either. I have Norton on some of my computers and AVG's free version on another one. Both programs protect and remove viruses so there is no need for two.

Nope! We do not need 2 virus programs/software for the purpose of detecting and removing the virus as most of the virus programs are capable of detecting and removing the virus almost instantly. However, the common thing for the virus programs is to keep it up-to-date as the virus list is expanding everyday so your software needs to adapt to the situation of detecting them all.
Cheers,

It it is true that computer viruses are sometimes undetected since these are updated also to adjust to newer scripts and updates by antivirus programs, however we as computer users and usual unsuspecting victims of this viruses, we dont really need to have two antivirus programs in our computers. The antivirus programs to date are dual purpose and programs to detect, quarantine and remove any forms of virus, spyware, malware and worms. Your friend Akan may have those two antivirus programs because they are just free versions, meaning its not complete, has some limited tracking, detecting or quarantine use, so when the Avast antivirus program fails to detect any malwares etc. He or she uses the othe which is the spydoctor to detect whatever was left undetected. We can really have two antivirus softwares installed on our computers but don't run them at the same time it might crash your computer, its like taking two strong medicines that has the same effect which could lead to overdose right?.

hi akan,
Actually it is not necessary to use 2 different antivirus software for protect and removing virus. some times that will make harm to your desktop also so better my suggestion is go for Symantec End Point Protection at present it is working very fine so plz dont you use such type of different softwares for a single purpose.
