Are song lyrics more important than melody?

I noticed that most people are focusing on a song's message more than how it sounds. Personally, I am very much interested with thought-provoking lyrics, but when it sounds like trash, I just lose my interest altogether. If it just doesn't connect to me in a "musical" manner, it just couldn't cut it.
So, do you find lyrics more important than anything else?

Can i choose both? Since I've been into foreign music lately like JPop, KPop, TWPop, i don't mind the lyrics at all. I am after the melody of the song but i do research for their translation which mean that i am also after the lyrics. That's the reason why i choose both. But when it comes to American music and native songs, i am after the lyrics of the song. I hate listening to music with offensive words.

Hi there. Well, I think I'm the type who appreciates the melody more than the lyrics. After all, I've been listening to Japanese Pop since forever and it was only recently that I started to attempt to seriously study the language. Of course, I appreciate heart-felt lyrics and all but I prefer that they come with at least a decent melody.

I still like to go for the lyrics of the song than the melody, i like that has meaning on it and has stories to tell so i can relate to the song. I don't like songs that has repeat lyrics from the start until end, for me its a waste of time to listening such music than doesn't have anything to say.
