I usually keep receipts for a couple of months after I go shopping for clothes and jewelry.
But when shopping for food I don't keep my receipts more than a few days.
Have a good day!

I was the same way with my receipts, just stuffing them in my purse. Now though, I don't carry a purse, never was much for carrying one, my fiance carries our money, and when we get a receipt we usually access a few things.
1. Is it our purchase?
Yes - Then Is it something that could be faulty?
Yes - Then we keep it. No- Then we make sure we have recorded
the purchase and throw it away.
No - Did we pay with someone else's cash? No - Throw Away
Yes - Give them the receipt or put it where they can find it.
Lol, I know that's a long drawn out way of doing things, but it really is simple. We usually end up keeping receipts that are ours for a while as is, because if it's not our purchase we have the receipt in our hand to give it to - or put it where the (person) can find it.

Except for special purchases, like very big items or where there is a rebate I only keep them until I get the amount and the vendor recorded in my accounting database. Since I don't carry a purse, I would have no place to put a whole lot of them if we saved them up.

I would make defenite that the things I shop would not be exchanged. Then only I will throw away the receipts. This I do only for the receipts of clothes I purchase. But for the other receipts like electronic gadgets & the like I will keep them safely as some of them will come along with a guarantee card.

I keep them for at least a year or two. I keep them for tax purposes and also to make sure that no suspicious charges show up on my credit cards/bank accounts. I also use them to track where I'm spending my money each month and where I should cut back spending..

I keep them long enough to decide whether or not I am comfortable with what I bought and that it fits if its some type of clothing. If its something else like an electronic, I might keep it for longer in case I have to exchange it or something. Anything receipt for something else like groceries or something like that will most likely be thrown away once I get my stuff home...

I tend to keep them until I end up losing them. I try to save the really important ones... something I like though, are the stores that just take a name and postal code, and allow us to return defective merchandise at any store location, as long as we provide our name and address. Now THAT is a good idea!!!

That is also the case with me... when i go grocery shopping or just buy a certain item at a store... i usually just put the receipt in my bag... and that would sometimes stay there for days... weeks... or even months... depending on my mood... but if the receipt is something that i can reimburse from my boss... i keep it safe in my wallet... and do not throw it until i get my money back...

Hello wondericequeen,
I do the same too. I will keep everything in my purse and 'spring clean' every thing inside whenever I have time to do it. Normally, I will keep until the receipt is no longer useful - like if I know I can get a new replacement within 7 days, I will keep the receipt for 7 days. But most of the time, I lose count on how many days I should keep it in my purse as I have too many stuff inside that I can't figure out which is notes and which is receipt though...

Well it depends what the receipt is for. For electronic gadgets I ususally keep them stored away as these majority of the time have the extra warranty in case anythng happens. When it comes to clothes, accessories, shoes, etc then I don't have a specific time frame of when I throw these out. Most of the time I just throw them in my purse and then whenever I clean my purse out I end up throwing them out when I know I don't need them anymore
