I was just thinking about a book my fiance and I read not to long ago by James Patterson. All of his books seem to be suspense / thriller or murder type novels. There were a few hints of comical relief in the one book we did read / have read so far. Do you think that it adds more spontaneity to the novel? Do you enjoy a little comical relief in a book genre that is usually fast paced and serious? Would comical relief in books like these cause you to turn away? Or is there a limit of how comical a book like these can be before you do turn away?
Explain your feelings about comical relief in suspense / thriller / murder novels!

I would definitely enjoy some comical elements in a serious book. The contrast given by these lighthearted moments creates a time in where I could pause and reflect on the contents of the book. I think that the quality of the jokes do count. If the jokes are lame or cold, they are better off not being part of the story.

I like your point about comical elements in a serious book. It is better so that you can look back over the book and kind of put everything together, get your own ideas of what's going to happen, and etc. I appreciate the response.
