When was the last time that you have formatted your computer? I usually do a format when my computer becomes totally unoperative. Usually I try to fix viruses or trojans myself and do a regular maintenance so I usually need a format every two years.

My very new computer just crashed! It has been invaded by recycler virus at system 32. I did not noticed that my son started using it even without anti-virus. As I was so busy, I did not have the time to set appointment with the computer specialist to fix it for us. The virus just brought down the system after a week. It needs a reformat certainly!

Hi Ronald,
I have formatted my computer almost one year ago. There were some virus attacks and my system got non-operative. Now I have installed Norton antivirus so there is no problem afterwards. Now my problem is bad net connection. I spent two days without net connection and when it starts working there was much problem for loading web sites. Due to bad net connection I already faced many problems. I hope it may sort out soon.

I'm running a scan right now on my desktop. My laptop had to be completely wiped and reinstalled recently. As a matter of fact, it just became available for me to use last night.
It kept giving me an error message when I shut down Internet Explorer for months. Then, one day, it just crashed. My husband reformatted the hard drive after moving all my files over to my desktop, then moved them back. It worked, for a few days, then crashed again.
So, my husband completely wiped it clean and reinstalled everything, including a new partitions utility. It works fine now. I guess the problem was that it's a relatively old laptop, maybe 4 years old now. It's been used a lot, especially when my son was living in my other house, 250 miles from here. He couldn't get a cell phone signal from that property, so we communicated via the internet. I let him keep my laptop down there since, at the time, his computer wasn't working properly. (He has since bought a new computer.) But, I'm sure he used my laptop more than anything else, like TV, video games, etc. It's pretty worn.
But, since my husband completely reinstalled everything, it's working like new again. I hope everything comes out clean after this McAfee scan I'm doing right now on my desktop!

I format my computer when i feel there is something wrong in my computer and when i have a spare time. Something wrong here is something like crash application that can not be fixed. It's hard to look the cause of the crash application and for me the only wayout is reformat my OS.
When i still studying, i reformat my computer probably every 6 months. But after works, i really rare format my computer.
I like to create an image from my OS when it's in peak performance. So when there are problem i just need to use that image. It's much faster than have to format my computer from zero ^_^

I have reformatted the computer I am using now just last December right before Christmas. I don't like reformatting because I was told it can shorten the life of your computer. So I do it only when I feel that it needs it. Last December was the first time I have done a reformation.

Perhaps one year ago I formatted my computer because my computer was affected by a series computer virus. There was no way to solve it unless I formatted the computer and reinstall the operating system. If it's not necessary, I don't want to format the computer because I have to install many software for it after that.

I think i have not formatted my computer at all, ever since i bought it about 2 years back.. lol =D I hated formatting because it takes such a long time of up to 6-7 hrs.. lol =D
My friend recommend me to use diskeeper instead as it takes about 2 hrs or so only.. BUt i'm lazy.. hehe ^_^ Even when i'm scanning my computer for virus etc, it's taking up almost 3 hrs or so, and i dun wanna waste anymore time in doing so.. lol =D furthermore, i will only do a scan on my computer every 2 weeks to a month.. lol =D

A month ago. My husband is just so worried every time the computer slows down or even if the internet access slows down. We are very much careful especially when it comes to Spywares and viruses.
Trojans are difficult to remove especially the new ones that come out. We just reformat the hard drive if we can't remove it at all.

I have been there and done that so many times! First with my old desktop because it had a problem; I paid someone to do it the first time and by watching him I learnt that it is not a difficult thing to do; just time consuming and fiddly if you have a lot of software installed on it. It's just as well I learned how to do it myself because I bought a new laptop after that and had a lot of problems with it including a virus and I had to reformat about three times; it was a nightmare!
I ended up getting my money back and eventually ended up with a decent laptop.
I didn't realise formatting should be done regularly; not looking forward to that! I clean the registry every week and scan for viruses and spyware; I hope the computer stay healthy for a lot longer!

I don't think I've ever formatted my computer, I didn't know we needed to..haha. So far its working good, we've had it about a year now. I have antivirus protection, and I scan my computer regularly, it seems to be helping so far.
