I am 52 years old and a mother of two children. My son turned 34 years old yesterday so
I phoned him last night to wish him a happy birthday. He lives in Winnipeg and I live in
Calgary so I didn't get to see him.
He informed me that he had a birthday present for me on his birthday. He and his wife,
Janet, are expecting for the first time. This was a total surprise for me since they
both have been saying for the last few years that they didn't want any children. But I
guess God has a different plan for them. They are happy about it and looking forward to
it so I am happy for them. But mostly I am happy for me. Finally I will be a grandma.
I am so excited. I was afraid that the day was never going to come that I would be a
grandma.
Now I only wish I lived closer to them but I will just have to make a lot of flights
to see my grandchild.
Are you a grandparent? I bet it is one of the happiest things in your life if you are.
Alrighty then, talk to you later my friend,
Have a good mylotting day, Chris

Congrats! I am so glad that you are happy. People who are happy to be grandparents make the best ones! I am 25 and my husband and I are preparing for our second child (it's supposed to be a girl, which is perfect to go with our 2 1/2 year old son). Marcus (our son) was the first grand child for both his maternal grandma and his paternal grandparents. He was even the first great grandchild for one of his great grandparents. That was pretty cool for everyone involved. His grandparents on his dad's side are your age, but they still have young 'uns at home (seven of them, the youngest of which is 9). Anyway...congratulations. Being a grandma is an important role!

This is my first grandchild and wanted very badly. My mom was 34 when she had her first
grandchild and 52 when she had her first great grandchild. The oldest great grandchild
for my mom is going to be 20 this year so since my mom is only 72 who knows, she may
become a great great grandmother yet.

My side of the family was sorta like that. My grandma was 17 when my mom was born and my mom's younger (by like 13 months) sister got pregnant at 16. While my cousin was older when she had her first child (23), it still made my grandma a young great grandma. My husbands parents are older already and so his grandpa is almost as old as my great grandparents (the last of which passed away last year). All in all...timing is different for everyone. But, it is always wonderful when it comes!

Wow! It is really a wonderful news to learn that you are going to be a grandma! Congrats chris, for having such an awesome birthday present. Yeah, I understand deeply that we will feel extremely happy to know that our dream that have long for quite some time is going to materialize very soon.
My son is thirty and he works in another state. He will be home during his holidays once a month or more than that. As far as I know he doesn’t have any stable close girlfriend yet. hehe I think I still have to wait for quite some time my dream to be a grandma then could accomplish I love to take care and to have fun with kids as well, and I believe it’s really a happiest thing in our life to have our own grand kids around us.
Happy posting and good luck.

Congratulations! I'm still just getting past the newlywed stage with my hubby, so I'm not even a parent yet, but my sister just recently had a baby. I know my parents were thrilled to become grandparents for the first time, and they can't get enough of their granddaughter! I can't even express how much joy she has brought into our family! I think a new baby in the family is the best thing in the world. Anyway, just wanted to say congratulations and enjoy being a grandma!

Thanks for the congrats. I am so excited. Your time will come when it is right. My son and his wife have been together for 8 years and married for just over two years so they are sure the timing is right now.

When I went to work today I had to tell one of my clients that I clean house for because
I have known her for 7 years and she knows how much I have been wishing for this. She
was so happy for me she hugged me.

Congratulations Chris! That's great news that you are going to be a grandma.
I'm a grandmother and I thoroughly enjoy it and I know you will too.
This is a second marriage for me and I have step-grandchildren which is wonderful, but in September one of my daughter's gave birth to a baby girl. She is so precious, I adore her and love spending as much time with her as possible.
We don't live too far away from them though, only about an hour's drive away.
Keep your eye out for flight sales, I'm sure you can find them and again congratulations.

I will for sure be flying back and forth lots. I usually can get a seat sale with westjet
for about $250 return. I fly back and forth about 5 times a year now so a few more times
will be okay.

This is my first grandchild and I have been waiting for this for a few years as my son
is 34 years old and time to start. My daughter is 26 but she doesn't have a steady
boyfriend right now, so no baby for her for some time, I hope. But my son has been
married for a few years and they always said they didn't want any kids so I am so
happy they changed their minds.

Congratulations to you and your family Chris. I'm not a grandmother as of yet. Hopefully it'll be some time before I do become one as I'm only 33. As you can probably guess I'm in no rush to become a grandma. LOL
My mom was 56 when she became a grandma for the first time. And boy was she excited!

Thanks. I have been waiting for many years. I started my family when I was only 17 years old and so this is long awaited. I am glad that my children didn't start as young as me but at the same time, it is about time.

And I am not going to wait till he or she is born. I am going out this afternoon to buy something little like a toy or something. I don;t want to bring any bad carma so I will only get something little for now. She is only about 3 weeks pregnant and just found out by a home pregnancy test and hasn't been to the doctor yet. She is a nurse herself so she knows that she has to get to the doctor this week to confirm everything is going okay. She is 35 years old so she knows things can happen.

It is out of the question, for me to move closer. I lived in Winnipeg all of my life and
only have lived in Calgary for 6 years and loving it. I lived here in Calgary for 5 years
first and then moved back to Winnipeg for a year and a half and hated almost every
minute of it so I moved back to Calgary a year ago.
WestJet is cheaper as they are the airline and expedia is a travel agency so they
charge a fee, or else how would they make any money. I haven't heard of nameyourprice
but I am sure they would be more than westjet too. But I will check it out. Thanks my
friend.

Congratulations on becoming a grandma for the first time. As this discussion is 3 years old have you become a grandma again or not? Did you have a granddaughter or grandson?
I am still young and don't have any children of my own yet. I want lots of kids so I hope it all works out for me. I don't have a boyfriend right now but hope to get one soon that loves me and we can start a family. I am getting older at 28, but not too old. hee hee
That was a great birthday gift for you even though it wasn't your birthday, but being your son's birthday was a great gift. It must be hard for you since they don't live near you and you don't get to see a lot of them. I know it would be hard on me since I am very family oriented and would miss them greatly.
Happy mylotting my new friend,

I had a granddaughter and she will be two years old in November. I won't be seeing her for her birthday because I will be seeing her for christmas and since it is a 13 hour drive each way I can't go in November and then again in December, would be too hard.
