I try to think about the consequences of my actions beforehand. Mostly, I think out the short term ramifications. If it's important, I make sure to think aoubt the long term effects as well.

We all make similar mistakes when we're not fully attentive to what we're doing. I don't think anybody actually thinks before acting every time they do anything. We can be distracted by other things, even if they're not all that urgent. Humans are so fallible. That's part of what makes us interesting!

It depends really on the situation. If I'm working or doing something serious, I'd say I'll think things through before deciding on anything. This usually happens if I'm expecting a "confrontation" or I want to convince someone to my way of thinking. I'll even play the scenario in my head and think of the many possibilities. This way I'll never be caught off guard. When I'm relaxed, like when I'm with friends, I'd act and do things spontaneously. But we are humans after all...our thoughts can stray sometimes. You must have been thinking pretty heavily on something...hmmm, wonder what that could be? :p
