OMG....My Hair Is BLACK!!!

Thursday night I dyed my hair. It was supposed to be a dark brown, but it turned black. Someone told me to wash it with dish washing liquid and it would strip it. I tried, but it didn't work. Do you know of anything you can use on it that will lighten it up or take the color out of it faster?

You should call the toll free number that is listed on the product package. They will have the best suggestions for your problem. I lightened my hair a few years ago and it was too light. I called the toll free number and they told me how to fix the problem.

Yeah, I think that's the best solution for the problem. It's their product, so they should be able to help you out perfectly. Plus, usually dyes don't really turn out how you liked them to be on the first try. Over a few weeks it'll turn lighter and lighter. Just don't forget to follow the directions. There are packages which has conditioning to be applied after a few days or such. If it doesn't have those, you make sure you condition your hair well so that it wouldn't become brittle and won't lighten too much! Good luck!

Try just washing it over and over and over. Washing hair fades the color a little bit each time. Good luck.

Lemon juice is supposed to be very good for lightening hair. It wouldnt do any harm to try it. :-)

Hi singlemommy, I don't think you should use any colouring just yet as it can damge your hair, leave it for a while then use a red colour, that will give you as lighter colour, good luck. Tamara

Hey singlemommy! OMG! The only thing that I can think of is to tell you to get another dye that is light brown and dye it again! What might happen is that it may come out with reddish color. It is really hard to lighten up black! What color did you use? I guess you left it on too long or you should have used medium brown! I hate that when it comes out wrong! I usually have the color coming out with too much red and I have to re-dye it to get it to cover and darken! I use a dark brown, but I use 100% grey coverage by Clairol because I have tons of stubborn greys. The greys are my problem and they cover red sometimes!

hi single mommy. I am sorry to hear that your hair colour did not turn out as you have expected it. I have found this answer in annother forum. I hope this answer will help you since I am not an expert in hair and colouring There is no way to lift artificial pigment unless you strip or bleach it. Sorry to break it to you. As a hairstylist who regularly colors her own hair black on and off,

What I would do is talk to a reputable salon and see what they recommend you might be stuck with this hair color for a while becuase to be honest dying it more will only further the damage .. But if you feel it's too dark you might want to think about adding highlights it will be less stress on your hair and might actually bring out the best of the hair color.

Vinegar (white) or Dyeing it a lighter color. My Step-Monster did this by accident and did the vinegar and it seemed to tame the color a bit. If you do decide to do the new color, I would advise the same brand and around the same number group as the other color you already have. It would suck badly to have green and black hair. Good luck to you!

Oh my gosh girl! When you dye it dark it is hard to bring it back to anything else. You might try some lemon full strength but I am thinking you are out of luck! Bleaching it would be about the only way. Could damage your hair. Wow! May I ask you why you did this? And next time might you take them literally when they say: Dark Brown? I probably would if I were you.

You could try a lighter dye I would not put to much on your hair at the moment use a conditioner if you are trying to wash it out quicker. That has never happened to me you poor thing put a scarf on your head or does it look that bad,you may get used to it.xxx

Since you want it dark brown you can consider yourself lucky! If it were waaaay too dark then you would have to bleach it out a bit thus damaging your hair more! But since you don't want it a Lot lighter you can go to the store and buy a box of light blonde tint...the type that you add peroxide to, Not the wash in stuff as it will never lighten! Apply it to your hair and Keep an Eye On It! As you see it starts to lighten and it gets to approximately the color you want, then shampoo it out. So in other words, in This case, do not read the directions and put it on the maximum amount of time or else then it will be too light! It may take as little time as 5 or 10 minutes or a few minutes longer. Good Luck!

Usually stripping the color is the best option. It's safer and less ugly than bleach and it usually brings your hair to a light brown or blonde which you can then dye to the color of your choice. hope that helps.

it mostly happens that when you dye your hair they get the shade darker than you expected, there is no way to lighten them it will lighten after some days or another way is to get it bleached and apply the right color again, its better to get it down by experts rather than doing by our own hands.

Dark brown usually tends to become a lighter shade of black. Dont worry, black is beautiful and will suit you immensely. You could try going to the saloon and geting a streak job done. That will highlighten your hair. Im sure this change in colour is good for it gives you a different look. Cheers and keep smiling, for your smile makes you more beautiful.

I used to try to dye my hair for blonde highlights and it'd always turn red/copperish. Really gross and then I couldn't get it dyed back brown so I had to let it grow out and wear off!

Other then dish washing soap I'd reccomend just bleach diluted, but I'd be careful because that stuff's dangerous. I'd be careful though because it can turn your hair yellow or orange, depending on how dark. It might just turn it lighter, I've never used bleach myself but someone in my family has, and it turned their hair yellowish orange, so use in moderation!
