My husband is a collector... currently an unemployed collector. We get along fairly well and there's a lot of humour in our marriage. However...
My husband likes to collect junk. Of course, he doesn't think it's junk. He loves old cars, old trucks, abandoned vehicles, etc. We currently have 2 vehicles that we drive, 2 that run that we don't drive, 1 that runs thats for sale, and 4 that are "parts". We tease him frequently by humming the Sandford and Son theme (he doesn't think it's that funny, but we think it's hysterical!).
I just don't get the attraction... and right now we can't afford any more "deals". He will spend time on craigslist or whatever, read the paper and always has to tell me about the latest "find". This only stresses me out cause although we do live on a rural acreage (so we do have some room), we just can't afford anymore stuff right now.
I know that he loves to tinker and would probably love to own his own junkyard but it is upsetting me cause I know the state of our finances. I have tried to explain that I understand his hobby but he can't seem to stop searching.
We had an old hottub that he bought from a friend for $1000 and it sat in our back yard for 3 years (not hooked up) - it was the ugliest damn lawn ornament I have ever seen. We ended up giving it away. He bought a Spyder Monza that we paid to haul twice when we had moved, he paid $500 for it, couldn't sell it and ended up dropping it at the junk yard (he got $60 for it) when we moved the last time. The monza never ran and was another ugly lawn ornament for about 4 years. He bought what he thought was a Meyers Manx dunebuggy last year for $1700 and recently found out that what he bought is actually a copy. Do we see a pattern here?
Anyway, I love him but he's driving me nuts. Any suggestions?

Well i guess that i am the collector in our family...My husband jokes and calls me the bag lady......I have a garage full of stuff....But i have a booth at the local flea market that i sell the stuff at every week.....he gets a kick out of me and my cans because i bag them up and take them to the local salvage lot and make a little that way......and on the job (we are in construction) I started to pick up all the little pieces of scrap copper that the other trades leave behind, and he laughed at me, but when i collected a mud bucket full of it and turned it in and got over $100.00 dollars for it....he stopped laughing at me. I always go to garage sales, and if i see old batteries laying around their garages i ask if i can have them. Last year in one day i collected about 20 of them, coasted me nothing, but i took them to the salvage lot and got about $6.00 dollars a piece for them. I guess every family has to have a collector............ Just call me the bag lady..........

You are one smart lady, I take my hat off to you in salute! It sounds like you are an extremely enterprising person and your recycle efforts deserve applause!!! I haven't been at myLot long enough to be able to use myLot code, but if I did I'd give you 3 of those cute little guys clapping!!!
We love flea markets, garage sales too.
I do love my guy and I have my own quirks too, I guess I just don't get his!
Have a great day, happy myLotting.
