China built a Great Wall and stayed behind it for 2000 years while the rest of the world continued to evolve. Europe sailed the world and the English language was introduced into many cultures at that time. English settlers were welcomed into many countries, and the language was introduced into others after they were colonized by English speaking people. Hong Kong was a British Protectorate for over 100 years. English is spoken in Hong Kong today, and many native Chinese in Hong Kong never learn Chinese because English is so widely understood and spoken there.

I also agree with the historical reason. In my opinion, the Chinese will spread quichkly with the building of the school of confucius.

i think its because English is just more common to people & everyone just wants to come to America. I also think the Chinese language is hard to speak & learn so that could be a possiblity too. Im chinese & i've taken Chinese classes my whole life & i still dont know everything. its pretty complicating, especially when it comes to writing. one wrong stroke & it becomes a whole new different word

yes, it's not only your problem, but also the others who study the Chiness. Even many of the local chinese people were unable to speak the mandarin well.
