What's so good about dogs; even cats?

I've been wondering what has been so good about having dogs and cats? I mean don't they cost money, aren't they annoying at times, eat up your furniture, make your house smelly?
On the top of my head, I can say that dogs and cats are extremely friendly indeed. They're like children in the fact that they always want your attention, they always want to play with you, and they're never mean....
When you're lonely, they're always there for you. To cheer you up, to make you happy on a day that you've been deeply depressed. Do you need exercise? Well dogs, not cats you can go biking in the morning, or running in the afternoon with a dog. Are you stressed, that dog or cat is always there to help you relax and get your mind off of the day.

pets like cats, dogs, birds helps you relieve stress. and these pets especially dogs tend to be loyal to its owner. and another thing about them... they do not complain (of course except when they are hungry) unlike human.

They're wonderful.
They're always there for you on good days and bad days and they'll love you no matter what.
Dogs, especially. Cats sort of do their own thing, but they're always nice to have around. So fluffy and cute. They'll definitely cheer you up on a bad day.
I mean, sure they have their downsides. What doesn't?
I love pets. They'll listen to your stories about your day no matter how boring. They're amazing.
