Is your last hour at work your longest hour?

I work an 8 to 5 job and to me 4 o'clock is the longest hour of the day because I know its almost time to go home. I sear time stops. I try not to look at the clock and when I do it goes time just goes by slower and slower. Sometimes I will get a phone call or my boss will request that I do something right at 4:30 although Im glad to be doing something cause it makes the time go by faster, it usually is something that takes more than 30mins and I end up staying past 5 o'clock. That is another thing that gets to me too, about one of my bosses its like why couldn't you wait until tomorrow to have me do that when you know its going to take me more than 30 mins to do what you asked. What do you guys think? Does time seem to stop for you during you last hour on the job?

I think the reason time seems to go slower is because we have a habit of clock-watching when it gets near time to go home from work. Most bosses are that way too. They stay later because it's in their interests to do so but they seem to think that because they're going to be late, maybe you should too. I think if it happened to often, I'd be inclined to leave it until morning every once in a while, to see what happened. Brightest Blessings, my friend.

Good for you! Yes I agree with the phone calls. I guess people just think that you don't close until five and throw their call in at the last minute, rather than leave it till the next day. You're always welcome, my friend.

That is what I do sometimes. I just say well I feel rushed right now so it will be better if I do it in the morning. Usually they don't care unless its dealing with the court or a hearing then I have to stay utill i get what they need. But what I think bosses don't understand sometimes is that everyone who has to call or answer the phone as part of there job don't want to do anything during there last hour of work and they are going to get mad when you call at 4:50 and there trying to leave. I try not to do that cause I hate it when someone calls the office at like 4:55 and my bosses are here cause i have to answer the phone. Thanks for responding.

Yes, It takes forever for that last hour to go by. I hate it. On fridays I always schedule off the last hour or two because I cant hardly stand it and knowing that the weekend is near it makes it even worse.

Yeah the worst day is Friday. At the job I had before this sometimes my boss would let us go at noon or three cause he couldn't stand being in the office another minute. At this job my bosses think that 4:50 is letting me leave early. I guess that is better than nothing. Thanks for responding.

My last hour at work is my easiest hour and sometimes my longest hour. The thing baout my last hour, is that by this time, most of my actual work is done. So unless I have some busy work, I am pretty much just staring at the clock. So, the last few weeks, i have been do extra things/projects that have been filling up my time. I figure that not only does this make my last hour go by quickly, but it also gets me a few brownie points with the boss.

Well, I no longer work long hours so the challenge for me is getting the most out of the time that I have to accomplish what I need to get done with the kids.
