Hash or Alcohol?

I was talking to my BF the other day about the consequences of alcohol and or Hash (weed, stuff they smoke thing.) I have heard it said that people who only smoke Hash and don't drink alcohol have no problems. There brain does not get damaged. I have also heard that alcohol kills the brain cells. There are also people who use both. How damaging is it? Personally, I think the alcohol is the real killer. The hash is an escape from reality. Not my thing. But seems to be less hazardous.
