Okay, I've always wanted to do something in the movie industry, I know I have to do something in that field if I want to have a happy career in life. But, I've wondered, how can I be happy with my career, if I can't even be happy with myself yet. I don't like the way I look, or even the way I act. What if, instead of going straight to college right away, I instead explored a bit of the world at first? I want to go to some wild and far off places, places that are far away from my boring home town. I think that if I went to these places alone, maybe I could actually find myself, and change, both physically and mentally, and thus come back a different and more ready person. I know it might seem kind of crazy, but just please give me some input. I really want to change myself, and possibly make it an adventure in doing so.

You should consider studying abroad or going to school out of state. This would give you a chance to have an adventure, while still at the same time "playing it safe" by at least working on getting a two or four-year college degree. The nice thing about this is that you can usually get federal funding to pay for your tuition and boarding (rent) and even some of your personal expenses - whereas without going to college, you'll have to pay for everything out of pocket. So, realistically, I think you could have an adventure all the same while you attend college, and you should consider it as an option. There are plenty of study abroad opportunities available to you. So, don't rule out college right away.

Welcome to My Lot. I think that studying abroad or doing a working holiday overseas are great ways to travel with not much money. I wanted to travel around Europe when I was 18 years old. I couldn't have afforded to do that so I got a job as a children's nanny in Finland. The wages there were high and so I managed to afford my trip around Europe by train. I stayed in youth hostels and met many different nationalities. When I was 20 years old I went off around the world for just over one year. I let out my home, got a working holiday visa for Australia and bought my ticket with my savings. I did my degree when I returned home and became a primary school teacher. Good luck with any traveling that you may do.

I personally think every student should take a year off school to "find themselves" before getting into the grind of college. How do you plan to fund your adventures?

I have to say if you don't do it now you probably never will, so if you have the means go for it, but um maybe take a friend just so you have someone covering your back as they say.
