Small Family Versus Big Family

What's better? A small family or a big family? Does an only child automatically mean she or he is going to be a lonely child? Does a big family with lots of brothers and/or sisters mean there will be a lot of fighting and backstabbing? I can see pros and cons to both type of family sizes. An only child gets to enjoy the full attention of his or her mommy and daddy (hopefully). And a child belonging to a big family has plenty of back-up when trouble strikes. What do you think?
