It's not brain-damaging as such, but it does make a great deal of difference to mental and physical well-being.
The reason the meal is called breakfast tells you one reason why you should eat it!
You are 'break'ing your over-night 'fast'. If your last meal of the day is 8 in the evening and you don't eat till 12 the next day, that's 16 hours without an energy source.
You burn calories even when you are sleeping and for your body to work properly you need to replace those calories.
Eating starts your metabolism working which is why you lose more weight if you eat breakfast than if you don't. Fasting makes the body think food is scarce and the metabolism slows in an effort to stop you burning off the fat reserves. In fact the best way to lose weight is to eat 4-5 small meals throughout the day!
The brain needs fuel as well to work efficiently, and a slow energy releasing food like cereal can sustain the body throughout the morning, and stop you feeling hungry at a time when due to work or school hours you cant eat. The brain works better, making work or lessons easier too.
I've always eaten breakfast and I've never had to go on a weight reducing diet in 40 years as an adult. I'm the same size and weight I was at 18!
As a care-worker, I've found that elderly clients who willingly eat breakfast every day, and always have, are more mentally capable than those who eat later in the day. Part of my job is to make breakfast for them and encourage them to eat it!
My advice would be, get up earlier, eat a good breakfast and give your body what it needs, when it needs it.

Good point. The longer you fast the more likely you are to over eat the next time you have food as your body is starving. I agree with you about the brain. I have always eaten something for breakfast no matter how little time I had as I could not function if I did not eat until lunch.

When I was younger and in school my grandma would always make sure I had something to eat, usually it was a fried egg sandwich, and I'd try to eat it all before getting to the bus stop. Nowadays that I'm older I don't hardly eat breakfast, once in awhile I do, I just don't have time to make me something in the mornings, sometimes I may eat cold cereal if I'm in the mood. I usually don't get hungry till around lunchtime.

Eating breakfast is very much important. At night though you just sleep, you still burn what you eat and you exert energy even if you sleep. And come to think of it,one(1) hr after eating, you didn't put something in your stomach for almost 10 hours. This is the time you spent sleeping.
So, if you won't eat your breakfast, then you dont have enough energy to support you till noontime. Count the hours you didn't eat one hour after your dinner. I hope you now understand why your mother insist in eating breakfast.

hi mhayfie,
Not only at home but even in school, I hear our teacher keep saying to us that eating breakfast is very important. Before, I am so lazy eating breakfast also but because of my mom, I was force to eat breakfast religiously. She always tells me that if I won't eat my breakfast, then she will not allow me to go to school.Mom knows how much I love studying that is why when her condition is like that, weather I like it or not, I must eat my breakfast. It was during my high school days that I realized how important it is to eat breakfast. I was in a hurry that time and I think my mom was not present in the house. So I take that chance not to eat my breakfast and hurriedly go to school. But as I am walking on way to our school, I feel somehow dizzy. I cannot remember that day because it was that day that no matter how hard I try to focus on my teacher, I cannot. My stomach keeps on rumbling because I not eat breakfast. I can say that, that day was so unproductive for me. I not learn much and I feel so weak. And that is the time I realized mom is right. There is a saying that mothers know what is best for us and I had proven that is 100% right.

my mom hasn't so much time to force me to eat breakfast, but when I at school,I force myself to eat.I dan clearly feel my stomach is roaring because of hunger when sitting in for the class.Usually, before my breakfast I take some hot water to protect my stomach since I've an artical about the advantages of doing this. This method can also do some good to those who want to keep themselves slender from dieting.

I am also doing same every morning but I don't know what is the use of that? Is drinking hot water in the morning much better than drinking cold water?

Hot water may warm up your stomach just as taking some execises before you take a heavy activity. When you eat something, your stomach movements no less than a basketball game.Warm up your stomach before breakfast also does good to the elders and females. The elders can reduce the rate of some diseases ,such as hyperglycemia and so on,while female will alleviate pain in menstrual period.

I believe in eating breakfast. One shouldn't skip it.. There's always this saying that "Moms know best". Your mom loves you so much she wants you to stay healthy. Breakfast is what keeps you up and alert when you go to school or chat with your friends..etc..etc.. Try going to school or to work without having breakfast and you'll be like a limpy vegetable with a cranky attitude. That just proves that breakfast is what fuels our body after long hours of sleep

Hi,
Eating breakfast is very very important.
Because it gives the energy to start our day.
I never miss my breakfast.
Becuase our stomach will be empty for almost 8 hours in the sleep. It certainly needs food. If we start skipping breakfast..soon will be start the problems like acidity.

Hi there mhayfie!
I used to skip my breakfast a lot. After a while, I found the importance of eating a hearty breakfast. From then on, I always make sure I eat my breakfast. Sometimes not at home especially if I am already late in the morning. I must be honest though that I do not still eat my breakfast regularly. I think I still have to work on this.

Hello mhayfie,
I think breakfast is the most important meal that you shouldn't skip. It gives you the energy for the whole day. I try not to skip my breakfast but sometimes, due to busyness I have no choice but to forget about it. Sometimes, I just have it on the go... as long as I can grab something light to eat and can make me a bit full while waiting for my lunch time.

Of course eating breakfast is very important because
it is the first heavy meal of the day. The food you eat in the morning
will nourish your body through out the whole day. I felt weak if I can't eat breakfast in the morning.

I love to eat breakfast but who has the time? Now I've never been a waffle or pancake man but omelets and hash browns are the best man. Most of the time I have to settle for a breakfast burrito or egg mcmuffin from mcdonalds which are actually pretty good.

if I don't eat breakfast I feel quite sick by the time 10am comes. That may be because I am used to eating it every day. I hear that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and that if you don't eat brekafast you are more likely to put on weight. I'm not sure where i read the bit about putting on weight from but I remember reading it somewhere.

One of the explanations for that not having breakfirst puts on weight is that one will eating more at lunch if he doesn't have breakfirst and then put on weight. I don't feel hungry the whole morning even I don't have breakfirst occasionally. However, I stick to have breakfirst every day. Everyone should keep healthy in his everyday life.

Your mother is right. It is very important to eat breakfast. Study shows breakfast is the most important meal. It will give you strength throught out a day.
So im not skipping breakfast as much as possible. But during weekends i can't seem to give attention in eating my breakfast. Like you i would prefer to sleep than waking up early. Anyway the most late time that i would wake up is 10am. I can have my breakfast by that time. =)

Hello mhayfie,
Today, if I don't have a good breakfast I feel weak the whole day. Even though I will eat a lot at lunch I still feel not 100%. When I was younger, it seems eating is not my concern. I feel ok with or without breakfast. It may have affected me later on becasuse now, I have to eat breakfast to be 100%. If you are malnourish for sure it will affect your brain, so it's better to be healthy and fit.
Regards.

It's not brain damaging but it does jump start your matabolism when you do eat breakfast and not eating it can cause you to have a slower metabolism.

Hey there! Yes, I believe it cause some bad effects on the body and mind. Your body feels weak, I don't know if you do but for me I do, because you don't have enough energy to start the day. You can think well if you feel hungry. Have you tried taking an exam or a quiz with a crumbling stomach? What was the result? I've experience that before. Although I still had a high score I feel that I could have answered well and have a higher score if I weren't hungry. So as much as possible I dont skip breakfast. Have a nice day. Happy posting!!

I never used to eat anything until after midday. The pattern started after I had my baby and I used to spend time during the day sleeping when the baby slept because I was feeling exhausted, consequently I didn't eat until mid afternoon or dinner time on most days.
When things settled down with the baby and I was getting more sleep at night and not during the day I started taking better care of myself and eating breakfast and although I still can't consume much first thing in the morning, I do feel much better having something.

Oh, we have the same mom, and I thank her for not allowing me to leave our home without eating breakfast. They said that we should eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a beggar. Though I always eat like a king, ha ha ha. For me, breakfast is really important, we should have our stomach loaded before we do anything. If I don't eat breakfast, my fingers are always shaking.
