why is it called a cured ham? ham is one of the most simple but easy to love foods. some varieties are easy to cook and some are no cook at all. but why of all things use the word cured for one of ham's cooked variety?

Curing means that it has went through a preservation and flavoring process. They cure it with sugars, salts, nitrates, and sometimes smoke the meat. You can read more about it at the following link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curing_(food_preservation)
