I've been thinking about this subject for a while and I feel an urge to discuss this with other people. OK ! Here it goes !
I live in the northern parts of Norway in a small town called Tromsø (60 000 inhabitants)
The last couple of months there as been four killings of innocent people in my town.
The first murder was a policeman who "snapped" and killed his girlfriend. The next killing was a so called "mentaly disturbed" person who killed the owners of the appartment he lived in. There was three people killed in the last case.
My question is : Should these so called "mentaly ill" persons be sent to prison for their crimes or just be placed in a hospital for mentaly sick people ?
Here in Norway a person who is "mentaly ill" will be sent to a hospital for mentaly ill people if he/she kill someone....
What to you guys think about this ?

Senseless killing is happening everywhere. These people are either mentally ill or emotionally upset. I am disgusted to hear news of innocent people killed for no fault of theirs. Mentally ill people should be rounded up and locked in the mental hospital as they are very dangerous people and because of their mental illness they are not fit for legal prosecution if they have committed any murder. They are not liable for any sentencing while families mourn for those unfortunate victims of their brutal killings.

Hi, Onibmab! I am very sorry to hear about what is taking place in Norway, where you are at This is so tragic!
I think they should send people like this to a special prison for mentally illed people. These people are gulity for killing another human being without thinking straight. While they are there, it will be like a hospital but it will be composed like a prison. They will have to stay here for the rest of their life, or depending on what sentence the judge issues to them. I have heard about a country called Norway.. I am so sorry that these killings are taking place. Something has to be done about this! Stay safe! I wonder what is really causing them to just kill all of a sudden???

Well, if the person is known to have mental problems, then I would definitely go with the hospital idea. Otherwise, throw them in jail! That cop who "snapped" -- well I wouldn't consider that being mentally. Stressed, yes, but not mentally ill. Anyway, I don't think he would have become a cop had he been mentally ill.
