Are downloading torrents files illegal..???

This all depends on what you are downloading. most people tend to use torrent sites to download pirated software or movies etcetera. which is obviously illegal. however, you can share any kind of material via Torrent sites, and many Linux distributions are distributed this way by the official sites.

I think it is legal because if it is illegal then many should have been caught. Besides it should be banned or the law should be implemented for it's total banning and the people who says that it is illegal should already be complaining. I think there is nothing wrong with use of torrents because as I have heard a lot it works very good.

well torrenting is illegal. anywhere in the world i believe. however, there are still alot of people doing it because of social status. many of us cannot afford the stuff that we want that's why we resort to torrent. a free world yet full of malwares. however, its still one's choice to torrent or not.

Downloading anything copyrighted (almost exclusively all music and movies) is illegal. Torrents stay alive because they are legal (as they are for transfering information and data files), but most of the activity going on is illegal.

If you download something that is copyrighted, then yes, it is entirely illegal. And torrents are really not "high power downloading." Torrents are actually generally slower than regular downloading. 99% of torrents are illegal, so if you want to "download torrents, but not illegally", I don't even see the point. Besides, why do you want to "download torrents" if you don't even know what you want to download?

no, downloading using torrents is illegal HOWEVER, downloading movies, games, and other copyrighted materials that you did not purchase is illegal. this is because you did not purchase a material that belongs to a company. in a sense, you are now stealing and therefore a crime therefore, like 99% of all torrent users are doing something illegal companies or the US govt will give you a warning if caught the first time i believe. i have had a friend who was given a warning twice and was threatened to be fined thousands of dollars. its a risk you have to consider
