I got a new friend request, I looked at his profile and found only a list of friends,
I decided to find out what was going on with this person so accepted him. Before I could even breath I got a PM asking for referrals. I wanted to know what one of these
looked like so i would know what to look out for well now I know. So if you get friend
request whose profile shows only friends you might not want to accept them, unless this is what you are here for. I did write him an answer to his PM and declined
participation. Then hit the delete on my friends lists. I'm not in this for referrals. Have you been in this situation?

Yes,I got a PM awhile ago asking me to be one of their referrals.I looked at the site and actually liked it and was glad that I was told about it.I don't really see what was wrong with it.That person is not hurting anyone and can actually help some people by showing them this site. And the way things are these days make a penny wherever you can as long as it's legal and not hurting anyone.

I have not recieved one of these requests for referrals yet. I don't accept alot of people as friends and I have actually deleted some due to lack of participation here on MyLot.

Hello savypat!
LOL I really haven't been active here that much for anyone to take notice of lil old me. I think I would be offended if someone did that to me, asking to be friends with me only to gain a little profit. It's sad actually. I think I would have just ignored his pm's and wouldn't waste another thought on him.
Making friends is easy but keeping them is another.
So if I did try to add you, would you accept and I promise I won't ask you to sign up for anything, at least for a couple of days...
Just kidding!

If I got PMs like that then it would be my own fault as I would have to have accepted them as a friend for them to be able to PM me. However if I made that mistake then I would immediately delete them from my list.

PM is private message and you can only get these from your friends. It doesn't hurt to be his friend if that is what you want to do. I don't have time to spend on referrals, so I don't want to waste his time asking me and my time answering. That is not how you earn money on mylot. PM's don't earn you anything as far as I know.

I've got that several times savy, I did what you did, to delete him immediately as I see he is in for that purpose only, to look for referrals. I do not want a friend who only become a decorative item in my list. I am not a collector of friends who has no interest in participation in mylot discussions and responses.

It happened with me too.I also get stuck in his trap for referral exchange.I joined his link but he never joined mine. From now on i am going to be careful about this. There are many people coming here just to get referrals and get the benefit. They do if for different sites in different names.Good you put up this warning discussion so people will not join under spammers link.

Yes, this has happened to me before and I reacted the same as you did.
Now, when I get a friend request and they have very few posts under their belt, I always look at their friends list. I've seen some with less than 10 posts but over 1,000 friends! I've actually declined one person twice already and he's asking for a third time. I've decided just to keep him there, dangling.
If people come here just to get referrals, I don't want any part of them. I'm here for the comeraderie and friendship. Those who come here just to get referrals should be banned, in my opinion. That's NOT what this site is all about.

You know, I don't think I have come across a situation like this but thanks for the heads up. That is really something isn't it. This site is starting to become a haven for people looking for referrals and you think that they want your friendship.
I would sure hope that myLot doesn't become a population of people just wanting to try to get referrals for money making and losing the whole humanitarian affect that this site brings.
I understand that there are those that want to make money but correspondence with some friends is important too.
myLot has many great features and it is an ever growing community. I would sure hope that this site stays a place for communicating effectively and learning from others.
I believe that I have received some private messages from members that were already my friend but I don't want my time here at myLot to be just about making money for others all of the time. I can understand helping each other out but there is something to be said for the quality of friendship as well. Don't you agree?

You're right. This site has been going on pretty steadily for a while now. There are hundred of thousands in the community by now. I really hope that this site isn't going to be affected adversely from trolls and the like.
I do agree that people need more money these days. Times are tough. I am just on here for the friendships and of course to make a little extra money.
I don't see an end in sight to this recession. It will be a while before we all get back on our feet again.
The tasks that have been presented to us is a good idea however I haven't yet tried them to this point.
I don't do anything like have referrals as of now but that could change. But I am not going to go trolling for referrals for myself and then just let myLot sit and collect money for myself from other people's participation.

This just happened to me a day ago and I replied to his PM saying no thanks and than he sent me another Pm. That made me get mad. So I put NO THANKS. And than there was no PMs after that. But the only step I didn't follow is delete him as a friend.

Personal story:
I belong to a freelancing site and got PMed by a guy wanting to know if I was interested in earning from data entry work? Green as a, er, very green thing I said yes. Result? I was directed here, told to sign up under an assumed name he provided, and I'd get 5c for each referral I made!
I told him where to stick his referrals list ...

Each of us has their own reason for being on this site, there are a big group of people that exchange money making info. And I do some of this. I am not into referrals but understand that others are, I just don't want to get involved in that
so I stay away. If this is your thing go for it, just read the responses on this discussion and try not to offend anyone. There is no reason for any hard feelings. Thanks for thee response.

I have only got three friend request since I have begun to write for myLot. All of the request where from people that had posted to my discussions. I put in my first friend request in yesterday. I like that. This is a great place for people to come together and talk about what is on their mind. That is why I am here.

I never accept people on myLot that I do not know. I do not think that I should be adding people to my friend's list that I have never seen before and especially because they are people I have never seen in my life.

That happened to me twice already. The first time, I did not mind at all since it sounds that she greatly need a referral. I did it out of curiosity. The last one, I did not dare to try. I think the last person who added me up and ask for referral got the impression that I am interested with some money online programs since I answered to one of the post regarding such online earning stuff. I accepted his friend request though.

i do send pm's like that. but only those people who are asking for it in their discussion. and to some who i think might be interested. but in all i think i just sent 3 messages like that to 3 person only. anyways, i don't plan to find referrals on this site. i am here more to enjoy reading discussion. and that is much better.
i can have fun here just by reading here. which i like more than the earning itself.

Hey pat! I unfortuanately got the same friend request with
the same email before I had a chance to breathe too! I was
really pissed off! I knew I shouldn't have accepted the
friend request! I just hate to decline someone's request, but
when I did go to the profile I should have been more careful
because all I did see was one friend acceptance after another
and nothing else! I though I was smarter than that, but I
did get caught too and I also deleted this person!

Not yet. Every person who's asked to be my friend has discussions, except for 2. I accepted them and they've added new voices to my discussions, but no word about referrals. So I guess I'm pretty lucky!
