I recently purchased an old style classic cast iron pan, and it cooks like a dream, unlike the other non stick teflon pans I purchased in the past, most of the time the teflon wears out after just a few using and then I end up throwing them in the trash because they dont cook well when the teflon is scratched or warn out. but the cast iron pan last much long and for some reason it seems to cook food better then some of those so called non stick ones. But which do you prefer non sick new style or classic cast iron cooking pans?

I like cooking with Teflon pans more so then I do cast iron. But I can say that I do own a cast iron pan that I only use for cooking bacon. It is a great piece of art.

Yea sometimes the non stick pans are ok, for light cooking but if your going to be doing some heavy cooking the cast iron is the best.

I prefer the old cast iron pans. They last a lot longer if they are properly taken care of. Unfortunately, they are also a lot more expensive.

Actually I prefer the non-stick pans. I like cast iron but it's awfully heavy and it tends to stick at times. I'd just as soon use the non-stick. I just bought one a few weeks ago and I love it. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

When we moved into this home there were already a lot of pots and pans here for us to use so we didn't have to buy to much. Most of the pans were cast iron and were so heavy that I couldnt use them because I couldnt lift them when they were full of food. They are very durable and heavy duty. They really do last nearly forever. I also hated that they would get black specks in my food. If I put them in the dish washer or scrubbed them with a scrubber then they would loose the season and then the food would stick. I gave them all to my mother as I couldnt cook with them. The rest of the pans in the house were aluminum. Those are ok but I love non-stick pans. I actually just read an article today in a magazine that said that if the teflon gets worn off or scrathed for $14 a company will recoat it for you. If you have a really expensive teflon coated pan that gets warn out or ruined that might be a good deal. For baking cookies & muffins I like to use non-stick pans. For cooking fries and other things I use an aluminum pan and coat it with crisco. Then I can use a brillo pad and scrape off anything that sticks on to it. With a non-stick pan if something sticks on to it I have to let it soak along time to get it off. There are a lot of pros and cons on any type of pan you use. Aluminum supposedly causes Alzheimers disease. Teflon supposedly causes cancer. I know I heard something about cast-iron to but its supposed to be the safest of the 3.

Hi ya apples99 I am with you on this one. I do have non-stick at the moment but that is only because they are cheaper but I will hopefully get around to buying some really good cast iron ones soon. At the moment I have to soak my pans but with the cast iron pans you can just scrub them straight away and it doesn't matter how hard you scrub!! I hate leaving pans to soak, I would rather just give them a quick scrub with the rest of the washing up and then it is all done in one go!

I prefer non stick teflon pans because the foods don't stick with the pans. When you use teflon pans its surface makes cleanup easy and also allows cooks to use less oil and butter. Cooks everywhere, especially low fat cooks, have come to rely on nonstick pans as a great way to cook or bake food, from omelets and sauces to perfectly shaped bundt cakes, without being left with a huge sticky clean-up afterwards. In the world of low fat cooking in particular, nonstick pans are a necessity, since they require little or no oil for cooking.

I'm with you on the cast iron. I'm not keen on non stick pans because as you say, the coating does not seen to last very long and the pans are never as good after that whereas a good quality cast iron pan will last a lifetime or two. The biggest drawback of cast iron is that it is heavy, it takes a while for the pan to get to cooking temperature and it will retain the heat for longer. This means that you need to adapt your cooking technique to accommodate this. And it will break if you drop it onto a hard floor... Personally, I prefer good quality stainless steel for cooking. Even if you burn the food onto the pan, (this is the quickest way of ruining a non stick pan) a good soak in hot soapy water is usually enough to get it clean again without any damage. Not that I ever let that happen..

I enjoy cooking in my teflon non stick pans. I used to have several cast iron skillets and I gave them to my mil so that I could use them if I needed too. They are nice to fry stuff in but I like my other ones better.

I can't say which ones I prefer because I've used both kinds and I liked them both. I have some non-stick pans that are from the Rachael Ray collection, and I really like them, they last a long time and don't hardly get worn out, I think they were a good investment for me. I've also used the cast iron kinds and they cook good as well, I know fried potatoes sure taste good, we mostly use it for camping cooking.

I prefer the non-stick pans. I keep them pretty nice by treating them after about 2-4 weeks of use. They hold up really well if you take care of them properly.

Hi apples! I like the non-stick for most things. Iron has it's advantages too though. It's better for cooking cornbread in..lol

Um teflon has been banned in certain countries because it's toxic, if it scrapes off or and you ingest it or if it is heated to hot and then it releases toxic vapors. I use food grade stainless steel and love it, cast iron for me is to dirty, though they are very great to actually use, but they seem to retain small bits of what you cook in them due to how you are supposed to care for them which cause bacteria and other things to grow which is just yucky.

I used non stick Teflon pan in cooking. There are ways in washing it, so just make sure you wash it according to the proper way of washing it for the pan to last. My pan was bought in 2006 and still using it until now everyday.

Here most families use non stick teflon pans at home. I guess the restaurants tend to use cast iron classic pans. They are not afraid of it, since usually they use a lot of oil to cook. So the cast iron classic pans are good for them. Since that, the temperature will be higher and therefore the food will be much more delicious. I love China

I am also preferred to use old style classic iron pan because their longeivity and durablity is much more than teflon coating pans. Teflon coated pans scratched early but old style cassic pans never warn out.So they are more preferred than teflon coated pans.

I have tried several NS pans and find it makes no sense to buy an expensive one. They wear out just as quickly as the cheap versions. The old style cast iron pan that I have is as good as new and still a very dear friend to me after 30 years of regular use. I vote for the old one every time!
