Do you eat Lugaw (Goto)?

Philippines
March 25, 2009 12:16am CST
When I was walking home, I was hungry that I can't find street food anywhere, and just stopped by in this store, Gotohan. I ordered Lugaw with Egg which cost P15 (It is a big bowl) and Tokwa'Baboy which cost P20. It was my dinner already since the traveling time from school to home is long, and got tired of siting in the bus. I really love lugaw, I eat it when I am sick or when I feel like eating some. It tastes good and very healthy too. Chicken flavored lugaw rocks. I tried Beef which takes a longer time to cook but really tastes good. I haven't tried pork yet though. Hehehe. Anybody here who loves to eat this traditional food of the Philippines. Hehehe! This is the best porridge dish in the Philippines. Share your thoughts about this dish. Hehehe!

I love chicken lugaw more than beef. And I want to eat lugaw always with tokwa. Haven't heard or seen pork lugaw though. If I am at the mall, I eat lugaw at Goto King. But it's very expensive compared to lugaw sold on the street. And most of the time, street lugaw tastes better.

I think lugaw with chicken is more known as Arrozcaldo.

Yah. The ones on the mall are quite expensive, though some of it tastes good. A big bowl of lugaw is really expensive. The ones on the street are much better. The traditional cooking.

It sounds alien to me. What is the English word for that? I am adventurous when it comes to food and would try any foreign cuisines. I have been to the Philipines and tasted the local food but I think are not very original as I took it in the shopping complex, Robinson. I love your crispy pork best.

In chinese, they call it Congee. In english term, Rice Porridge. In filipino, they call it lugaw, goto or arroz caldo.

I usually cook 'lugaw' with lotsa shredded chicken. I also put boiled eggs on it. When I serve it, I usually top it with lemon juice, crushed chicharones, fried garlic and spring onions! It is my husband's favorite comfort food. He will also ask for some fried tofu & vinegar on the side. I dont eat lugaw though. I just cook and my husband does all the eating! I like eating champorado but not lugaw, heheheh.

well, my husband can finish it all =)) I guess he missed eating out lugaw in the neighborhood carinderia or in goto king, thats why he would often finish a whole pot of my homemade lugaw. (There's no carinderia 'round Michigan, lol) As for me, I just dont like it. I wonder why because I would usually eat rice with lots of "sabaw",hahaha!

Hello takaishi! Like you, I also love eating lugaw or rice porridge. It is very cheap and can satisfy your hunger. It is perfect with tokwa't baboy but I prefer tokwa (beancurd) only because the baboy (pork) does not taste good sometimes. I also love eating other street foods like kwek-kwek (fried quail eggs), fishballs, squidballs, barbecue, isaw (grilled chicken or pork intestines). Sometimes, I crave for it and ask my husband to buy some.

I love it. Aside from dumplings, this is the only food I order in Chowking. Maybe because it is easy to eat and cheaper. It doesn't need a lot of seasoning to enjoy its taste. Other than chowking, I used to stay in Tiendesitas to porridge too. Well, my main purpose is to used the wifi conncetion. Hehe! But I really enjoy eating this kind of food. Thank you!

Tried tuna lugaw my friend, There's a restaurant here that sells a very delicious cheap tuna lugaw and also all that you mention. Tuna is a healthy one and i tell you its delicious. It only cost 10pesos and you can buy it from Marina Tuna. Like what their banner said its a "Pagkain ng Bayan" which is indeed true because everybody can afford it to buy. Personally i like eating lugaw when the weather is cold and would like to eat it because its warm or hot in stomach and it is fast as well as easy to make. Its quite relieving when you are really hungry and also like you said lugaw is good to eat when you don't feel like eating any food because it is soft and its not hard to digest in stomach.

Yes, I do eat lugaw. I love to eat that lugaw with egg when I don't have the appetite to eat or when I am sick. The last time I ate lugaw when I became a victim of food poisoning when I couldn't take any food to my stomach. Only the lugaw made me eat.

Hmm. It is made of rice. Hmm.. It is like cooking rice, though it has more soup and just add chicken flavor for it to have a taste. Try checking out how to make this dish. It is really good.

I love to eat rice congee too. I would've liked to eat more of it now but ever since our local "Goto-Eat" closed down many years ago, I've never had a decent bowl of goto. :( And whenever we try to make it at home, it'd either be too soupy or too thick. We can never get it right.

Hello Taki, well i miss this porridge a lot. There is nothing like that here in my place now. Before i use to eat Goto and Mami in a nearby fastfood shop near our place. I like to eat such Goto and hot soup during rainy season. I miss the kind of tokwa that we have in our country. In here the tofu are really soft and you can't cook it crunchier like our local tokwa that we use to eat with spring rolls or that tokwa't baboy. I also miss the palabok or pancit luglog that i may not be able to cook here because they don't sell the same kind of noodle. Happy Mylotting!

I loved lugaw and goto especially in cold weather. I prefer the lugaw and goto made by my mom than the one sold on the street or food stall. In this way I know that it's much safer to eat because we know that all ingredient are not re-heated many times. I also prefer to eat lugaw and goto when the times that I'am sick or not feeling well.
