I love to make candies. I have gathered many recipes to make this year. My plan is to make a box of mixed sweets for everyone.

Nope, I've never tried to make candies. Where did you get the recipes from? And What kind of candies are you making?

I have a few recipes that are tried and true for peanut butter fudge, chocolate fudge, and butterscotch candy. I have been collecting recipes from friends and thru the internet.

I've been making homemade candy for Christmas as long as I can remember. My earliest memories are of making mints (a cooked variety, long before the cream cheese ones came into vogue.) It seemed so easy when I made things with her. My first few years of making the candy on my own I suffered numerous failures, but I was determined. I recieved the ultimate compliment when my step-daughter asked if I was going to give her a package of homemade candy for Christmas again because "Christmas just isn't Christmas without your candy." Wasn't that sweet!

That is sooooo sweet. I gave up on trying to buy gifts for all of my nieces and nephews....I made them each an individual goodie basket and it was the best gift I have ever given to them. It is now a tradition.

I use pots and pans on the stovetop. I don't own any special machines. Just the basics are needed for candy making. A candy thermometer helps, but I don't usually need it. I can tell by looking at it to see if it has cooked to the stage it needs to be at.

Making candy can be touchy. If the air is too humid it takes longer it to reach its temperature. You have to use the right amounts and ingredients or failure is certain.

Every year at Christmas, our family makes a bunch of different candies and sweets, from family recipes. My fave is candied orange peel.

Candied orange peel sounds delicious. I will have to try making it. Do you have any others that you care to share?

I try to make chocolate and peanut butter fudge for Christmas everyear... however most years it doesn't come out... but I figure one day it will... we just throw it in the freezer and it hardens that way...
