I know Chinese and some Japanese. I remember one time, my friend told me about what he thinks about Chinese, he described Chinese characters in a very funny way, he said there was a box on top of the house, something like that. He said Asians languages are very difficult, it is spelling like English charaters. Chinese words are developed and changed from pictures, it is called hieroglyphic. There are some certain words are really like the picture that you can really tell it is developed from a picture. Even soometimes native Chinese thinks it is difficult, we cannot tell how to pronounce iot by looking at the word like you can figure out how to pronounce by the spelling in English. I think learning pronounciations would be slightly easier than learning writing the characters. Are you guys interested in Chinese culture and the language? Can you speak some?

I don't think Asian languages are that tough to learn. I am from India and I know Malayalam, Hindi, and Tamil languages. I think it takes time to learn languages. Some languages are very easy to learn. Most of the Indian languages are connected to each other and do have same sounds and has difference only in writing. I think mostly Southindian languages are connected to each other. I don't know Chinese or Japanese, but I will look to learn or try to see how it looks in writing.

I think chinese speak different dialects in different areas and there are around 1000 chinese dialects but there is one dialect which is common and every one in china will share which is Mandarin. So you need to get past the tones and listening to language and apart from that, you need to have working knowledge of 3000 characters so looking into these facts, i think chinese is one of the hardest.
