I have not been outside for a nice long walk in months. Mostly due to the4 snow and cold. Well Sunday evening the wife and I went for about a 2 or 2 1/2 mile walk. Let me tel;l you, after not doing this for sometime my calf and thigh muscles are killing me. Monday I woke up, stood up, and nearly fell over from the sore muscles. Today (WED) they are still sore, but bearable and what not. Have you ever waqlked so much at one time that your muscles huirt like the dickens? Do you walk often? If not what do you do for exercise? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I enjoy walking at well, both for the exercise and because you can see so much more of your surroundings than when driving by in a car. We don't have much of a winter snow and ice-wise here in Oklahoma, so it's more apt to be the heat of the summer that keeps me in. In the fall when it gets cool enough to walk more, I start gradually and work up. I'm more apt to be sore from working in the garden this time of year, since we go quickly from winter to summer.

In the warmer dry weather I walk a lot at the Nature Center that's maybe a mile away. If walk all their paths it covers maybe 3 miles total. It's a great walk as I get to see all types of the local wildlife. Even an American Bald Eagle once in awhile. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

due to the winter we have been inside alot...and it is sad because I hate the snow and yet I live in michigan...LOL ...so we have felt a little trapped inside and major cabin fever this year...probably because I now have 2 kids and they both need to get out...LOL I do excercise every morning, well not so much in the last week as I was sick and then I kinda got off track, but I have dance workout videos, or weight training videos, or just plain excercise workout videos... I love to work out at home, I have my own weights... and my dvds... I dont like going to the gym to do this because I dont have that much time... so I workout at home. I know walking outside is much different than working out...so when this weather warms up..if it ever does, I will feel it too when we start walking again!! LOL hope you are feeling better today!!

I walk alot....but not as much as I used to. I used to walk around one of our lakes at least 4/5 times a week. Now I just do a block or two as my knees are getting bad....but this weekend at the mall I did alot of walking so I didn't stiffen up sitting all the time...the walking felt good!

Hi Grandpa Bob! I have just done a lot of walking yesterday because I was in our city capital trying to file a claim in one of the banks here that was closed. There was a lot of paperwork that needed to be notarized, photocopied and filed in different locations. My goodness, when i woke up this morning my legs were aching. I felt I have done so much leg exercise with a lot of weights strapped on my legs. Take care and blessings to you. lovelots..faith

I used to get up every morning at five and go for a three mile walk with my niece. I found it to be very relaxing. I haven't walked in a long time. I try to get my husband to walk with me, but that is no fun, because he wants to stop to rest too often. He complains about his legs, but I think the problem with him is that he does not exercise at all. Since I really do not exercise any more, I will go up and down the stairs two or three times a day. I have a long stairway in my hall leading to the outside door. My husband is the biggest couch potato going

My faher is actually the biggest couch potato ever. He does not do anything except sit in his chair all day long. He won't even get up to sit on the porch on a warm day. Grrr! He is so lazy he won't even do simple exercises that you do when sitting. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I walk outside when the weather starts to get nice out. I walk 3 miles 5 days a week. In the winter I walk on my treadmill. You know all that walking I do seems like I never loose any weight.

Exercise? Ex-errr-cise? (said like Maynard G. Krebs said "work") Walking hurts my feet and my feet hurt because I've got all kinds of problems with them. No, I don't exercise much.

I can't remember the last time I did that. I don't get out and walk much at all, for exercise I like my wii fit. I am not big on exercise though like I should or like I would love to be able to. Before spring break my daughter said that she went out and did some walking and thought she was going to pass out before she got home. hahaha She is on meds that have put some weight on her and she is wanting to get rid of it. While my grandson was here for spring break my daughter said she walked 3 miles one day and the next morning she could barely get moving because she was so sore. Where she lives there is a hill to walk up to get to her house and that is what does her in right now. I think she is going to maybe go to the walking trail to walk and when she can she will go to the school and walk the track.

Yeah, if you get away from doing something that you've done for a long time, when you get back to it, it will take you awhile to get used to it again. I'm sure your muscles will feel better then you can go out and take that walk again. I walk often myself, I walk about everyday in my home that is. I do a 3 mile walk and a 2 mile during the week, its helped me alot, I've noticed I have more endurance now, I don't get as tired as I used to, walking is good exercise, no matter how you do it.

Hi Grandpa Bob! Yup! I know exactly what you mean! I also haven't been really doing much walking in quite awhile for the same reasons! It has just been too cold so far to really get back into my walking habits yet! And even when I do a bit of walking I feel the same way afterwards! I did walk a few weeks ago to the grocery store which is quite a hike from where I live and there are hills and it is quite a walk! My legs felt the same way! My calves were killing me for a few days! It takes awhile to get used to doing that amount of walking again! We have to start out a bit slower and shorter distances!

I haven't been out for a walk in a long time neither. I can imagine how sore I would be. I do have a second floor where I live so I do have to go up and down the stairs several times a day. I have a question for you, you said it hurts like the dickens, whats the dickens. My granddaughter asked me that once after I told her something hurt like the dickens.

hey I did not know you were like me, with not being able to get out and walk in the winter. Yes when I walk to much I do ache the next day and sometimes for three to four days afterwards, but it is good in the long run though, it does build back the muscles

I did not go for a walk today, nor yesterday because of all that snow on the ground. I usually just go to the Mall and back again and that is about a mile and on Monday, I went twice to pick something up. But with the snow and the slippery conditions, I have to do my walking in the house and I have a small house. I was hoping to get a little more exercise and lose some more weight.

Hi Grandpa B, We had our walk also last Sunday for one hour and day after that, I felt a lot of pain in my body! Hopefully, it will not happen again for the next walk, we can't do it everyday since my hubby is tired from work so weekend is our schedule for walking.. I felt like I am gaining a lot of weights and I need to pay attention to this, when I am home I am trying to exercise in my own ways!

Hi GRANDPA BOB, Yes few summers ago I went for a walk with my friends into the woods and walked for miles and came in the evening and the next few days I suffered with all the aches and pains but now I do walk a bit even to just go off the my local shops. Tamata

Hi Granpa Bob! I love to walk! I do most of my walking in my own house though, on the treadmill, but my mother who is 77 years old walks around the neighborhood almost every day. I think it is fantastic exercise, but no one should over do it. Keep up with the walking. It will get you in shape, and you will feel great. It's awsome to be outdoors. Have a great day!
