Do you think a person who haven't read the books would understand the Harry Potter movies?

BOOKS! I watched the movies before I read the books. Many of the things in the movie I don't understand. When I read the books I understands all. I watched Harry Potter and the Half - Blood Prince and I don't understand anything. I'm not read the book at now and this is the reason to I don't like the sixth movie.

I think so, I understood it. I guess, if I read the book, I would've had a better experience since what I've imagined is actually going to be seen with my own eyes.

I have a friend who watched the movies before ever reading the books and she understood them perfectly well. She understood them better after reading the books though. So I think a person can watch the movies and understand them without reading the books.

Yes, the movies were made for people that don't like to read. But keep hearing about this incredible Harry Potter person. And Ms.Rawling, and quite a few other people decided to give those folks what they wanted. A movie, so that they did not have to read the books to enjoy the story. However, due to time constraints and other things, the movies leave much to be desired compared to the books, in my humble opinion. Those are my thoughts.

Yes a person can definitely follow. But if he doesnt read the books, Then i think he is missing a good amount of details.

yeah, they may be understand the movie, but not every part or detail of the story.. the movie is not as complete as the book. if you have read the book, you will enjoy the movie better, because you understand the book.. there are just concepts that are in the movie, that would best understood with the book.

Well, I think they can understand, although may not understand every detail of the story. The movie have chosen the most important plots to present so as to make audience understand the story. My brother and mother haven't read the story but that enjoy the film very much when they watch it with me

I think that most of the films which based on books are not as good as the original. For Harry Potter, even though the films present the original in great drgree,it can't be detailed as the books.I hold that a person who haven't read the books would not understand the Harry Potter movies.

I think it's easier to understand the movies once you've read the books, but the movies have been devised in such a way that someone wouldn't have to read the books to understand it. At the same time, after reading the books one tends to notice everything that they've left out, things they've changed, and little inside jokes that those who haven't read the books won't understand. Er, then there's the fact that if you read the books, you already know exactly what's going to happen and if you watch the movie--at least in my case--you're probably going to associate those actors and actresses with the characters in Harry Potter, regardless of how you thought they'd look before watching the movies/knowing anything about the movies.

of course.some of my classmates can`t understand why Harry Potter are so attracted me beacuse they don`t read the books. They descibed me "just like being mad".The books have many slight details that the movies can`t show.If you`ve read ,you can feel the roles` mental motion. And if you don`t watch the movies, just read ,you could have more spaces to imagine the whole scence.Actally, i think the movies is only the way to expand the novels` kownledge. In the commercial times, earning by different ways is not too excessive, right?

I still suggest that a person should read the book first before watching so that you may not get confused about the characters and story.

Yes, why not? The movie isn't as detailed as the book (so as they say) but the unification of the story and how they portray it isn't jumbled nor does it have codes hehehe.. It's pretty clear. I could say that because I haven't read the book but still do I get the story. I'm doubting though to those who haven't read the book Twilight and still managed to fully grasp the story, else they were only after the actor and how cute he was. Hahahaha..

Yes, a person can follow the basic plot but not all the little details. J. K. Rowling has a way with her writing that is very surprising. She will drop a hint and by the time you get the thing she was hinting at you have forgotten the hint. For example, she mentions Sirius Black once in the beginning of the first book and you hear nothing more about him until the third book. Another example is Kreacher the house-elf. For those of you who haven't read the books, I won't reveal any details, but he is a MAJOR character in the final book and the fifth movie allowed merely a glance at him. Some of you may not even remember Kreacher, which is my point. And poor Dobby...he did a lot in the fourth book but wasn't even mentioned in the movie. So, yes, you can understand the plot but some characters and details will seem to come out of nowhere in the end.
