Hello all am 12 weeks 3 days pregnant and I am a smoker. I have been trying so hard to quit and everything I have tried is not working. I was doing so good for the first month after I found out! I had gotten down to 3 a day but now I am right back to a pack a day. I hate this! I want to quit and never smoke again but I have tried cold turkey and tried to reduce gradually and its not working for me. If you have any info please share.thanks

I'm 17 weeks and 3 days pregnant and smoking. I've been trying hard to quit also. I've been so stressed lately which makes it even harder. If you come up with any good advice let me know.
I've got friends that tell me that they smoked throughout their pregnancies and the babies were fine.
The strongest motivation for me to cut down is knowing that if I don't quit my baby will be born addicted to nicotine and make him cranky. Also I worry about his lung development which so far doesn't seem to be a problem.

Thank you both for your responses and yes I will definitely let you and all know if I find something that can be done to help stop smoking. I know exactly what you mean with the stress making it harder! I smoked with my other 2 children but not as much as I do now. That's why I am wanting so badly to hear from other mothers that have concord this. My other two children have no affets from it but I have learned to hate it myself. The taste of a minthol is great but the smell and actual smoke kill me. Anyways thanks again.

I was told that too when I was pregnant with my first child....that they would be cranky because they would be addicted to the nicatine. My first child was the best baby in the world. I never had a single problem with crankiness. Nothing. You couldn't ask for a better baby.

lol. That's good though! I prayed every day and night even when I lit one up, that every time I did I would throw my guts up with morning sickness. lol. It never happened! I don't understand it though because I don't like the smoke! If I smell it on my husband I gag and everytime I finish I have to wash my hands or I gag! Why don't the smell or taste bother me while im smoking?! lol.
thanks for your response

uhhhmmmm you need to get professional help to stop. and stop immediately. smoking while pregnant is terrible for the baby. if you truley care about the child in your tummy you will go and get help and do ANYTHING to stop. if you continue smoking you can give the child many health problems befor they are even born. you need to get the patches or medicines or the gum. definitely try everything. theres no way you should ever continue to smoke while pregnant. good luck

I was always told by my doctor that you shouldn't use the patch when you are pregnant. Gum I believe she said was ok.
I would also like to say that I have three kids and I smoked with every single one of them all the way through and not a one of my kids has any sort of problems. However, I did quite for a while after I had them so they were not around smoke. And I didn't want to smell like smoke for my babies. But I always started back up. But I still didn't smoke around them. That is more harmful for them than when they are in your tummy.
I know how hard it is to stop, but reality will hit you when the baby is born and it will be easier to quite, plus being in the hospital for a few days also helped me as well because you don't want to go out for a smoke it is almost embarrassing when you are in the hospital. Good luck girl, Don't stress yourself out about it. You know stress is bad for the baby too, just like everything else is. They just like to blame everything on smoking.
