Just this lunch break, one of my office mate really got so angry when he counted his money in his drawer that it was missing 300.00, and he just recalled that last week he also noticed that his money lacks about 150.00 but then he just thought that he just miscalculated or so. But now, he notice some evidence of breaking in at his drawer, and his small cabinet also. It was really forced to open cause we all got locks in each of our drawer and cabinets. He suspected that the crime happens after office hours about 6pm and beyond in the evening cause theres no body there anymore. Now, we don't feel safe anymore about leaving our belongings in our office knowing that even our drawers can be force to open by this criminal. Have you also experience this in your office? What did you do about it?

Yes I have hit in the office place before. It was about eighteen years ago. I had my purse and some others were locked up in the office. Someone was able to climb over the wall and go into the office to rob me. If I can recall correctly I think they only took my money. I never got it back, but it changed the way I looked at people for a while.

Yea, tell me about. I have moved on and mostly I have learned to forgive who ever it was. I look at it as maybe they needed it more than I did. However I would have preferred them to ask and not steal it.

But it wouldn't be also a good idea to tolerate such behavior. They might keep on doing it over and over again thinking that I wouldn't make such a big deal. Then, sooner or later, they will steal your respect.

I had a similar problem in my office with people stealing supplies from the office and taking personal belongings from other co workers. The problem got so bad that I hired a gaurd to watch the floor during lunch hours for anything suspicious. It didn't take long for the guilty party to be discovered, I fired him Imediatly.

Hi jankar! This happened to me just over a year ago. I had a temporary job for a month and my purse was stolen from my bag while I was at work. It was not in a locker as none were provided. It was hanging in the cloakroom changing room which was available for all of the staff. There were about ten of us. In the evening when I finished my shift I got my bag and saw that it was open. then I saw why. I was petrified! I knew all my colleagues and trusted them. I lost money and all my cards, driving licence and ID. I had to take the next day off work to report the theft and get replacement documents done as I need my licence to drive to work. I finished the month off there and had a terrible feeling every time I set foot in the place. About two months later my purse was found and returned to me by the local police - empty of course Be careful there in your workplace and keep all possesions with you as I do now. Once bitten, twice shy

I was rferring to me, the victim. The thieves don't seem to worry about geting caught at all.

Meaning... you're a shame of being the victim here? Well I think you shouldn't be cause you have the rights for your own personal property. Am I right? Or did I just not get what you really mean...

It's really sad when you lost something and your only suspect are your colleagues of friends. Sometimes, you dont know what to do with it, or how to handle the situation. And after the incident, you don't feel comfortable being with your office mates anymore knowing that one of them is the thief. Grrrr, so irritating! Haha. By the way "Once bitten, twice shy", where you referring to the thief? or the victim?

Well, I've heard a lot of similar experiences, especially that cellphones could be easily forgotten. When a cellphone is left anywhere in a public place, dont hope for it to be found when you go back for it.

This is what really sucks about soceity. While we would all like to think people in general have respect for the privacy of others, sometimes that just isn't the case. Some people are thieves. It's no need to beat around the bush and make excuses for it. It is what it is, and what it is is that some people are looking to cut corners and don't care who they hurt in the process. Upon seeing the title, I wanted to make reference to the economy being a major factor. One of the voices in my head(I think it 's the one I call Hector, they all sound pretty much the same most of the time.) is currently in the middle of a rant about crooks lurking around us at all times. Usually, I tend to ignore everything Hector says after the third Hungry Hungry Hippos reference, but he seems more focused than usual. I don't have an office job, but I do remember quite a bit of thievery in school. Being the vigilante person that I am, I was rarely a victim of it. The few times I was though, it really got my blood boiling. My only regret was not having access to advanced technology. Because I didn't have a sky cam, I instead resorted to threats. Whomever I suspected to be the culprit, they were on my list. I didn't actually have a list though. Lists were overrated to me then. I instead mimicked pro. wrestlers and taunted my possible foe, before reaching for a strategically placed steel chair...

This is such a cruel world we're living in. Its a place where nothing is fair. I guess its a challenge though on how we should look out for ourselves and our properties. Really sad though that we have to go through all this.

There is already a proposal that we install CTV's in our office, especially that we are now under new supervision. I hope that sooner or later it will be implemented here so that we can be more comfortable with our things here...

A senior staff stole money and I was the cashier. It was a long story amd being new I was the accused. But they found out who did it and yet I quit after a few months because the staff was not fired and it scared me working there knowing she could always do it again. I never steal anything myself but I was always the one that got blamed. Maybe because I was quiet and not mingling with others. There was a time a manager accused me of stealing paper in the front office whereas I had worked there for months before she did and everyone in my dept had always taken paper from the front office. When she became manager she told me my dept had to buy our own paper. I think she could've told me this before accusing me of stealing which made her sound retarded. So I did what she said, ordering paper for our own dept. But paper was still missing, I found out that other people in my dept still took paper from front office. Not because I didn't order enough, but because it's been going on for years anyway. I never reported them until the day I quit. I know I was blamed for something I didn't do but I think both female manager at the front office and female supervisor of my dept (so this manager and my supervisor got together for a tea I guess, discussing who's stealing who's not) at the time need to be taught a lesson. I'm sure they have to come up with a story if they are asked about paper costs LOL but hey, what comes around goes around, right?

Yeah, I think that's common when public places are concerned, specially if you're of different families and backgrounds. There will be people who will have an itch for stealing something. Most especially if they know that you leave money in that place. It has never been safe to leave money when it's only safe-guarded by locks but are well exposed to several hours to anyone who'd try to open it. He should have kept the money out of that place during after-office hours. Your office should have a safety lock or safety deposit lock locked at the treasury or the private room where only him and the manager has a key in. It's better safe than sorry, yesterday it's 150, today it's 300, perhaps next time the thief would only leave you spare change! hehehe.. Just be careful. We do that in our office, if we must leave some cash there, it's bolted in our safe where only 2 people know the pass and has the key, if something went missing, there'll only be two people at fault.

That's the idea, never leave any money or jewelries or anything precious/expensive at your office. That's what my office mate now tells us here, cause you just cant trust anybody now a days. I never happen to leave money or anything in my drawer. But some of us does and now they're scared of leaving them in the office. Our drawer even though it has locks, we've just discovered that they can be easily be opened if you try. We don't have a safe lock actually in our office, so I guess there's no way for us to keep our belongings safely there. Though there's one in the cashier but it is mainly for office transactions only.

That's bad. It is better not keep money inside your office tables or lockers. You home or the bank is much safer as place to keep your money and other valuable personal belongings.

Hi, Jankar! I have not experienced this before where I used to work at. It sounds like it could be someone that works right in your department. It is sad that someone can steal and take away from someone else. If I was you all, I would not leave anything personal and private in my desk drawer. I would not especially, leave any kind of money down... Not even a penny.. Someone in charge needs to hold a group meeting and they need to start putting cameras up and around the office. The police need to be contacted so that an incident report can be made. Don't take this lightly. If this person steals once they can do it again. That has already been proven by them stealing two times already. I hope that you all get this resolved. Action must be taken against this thief!

Once a theif is always a theif. That's what my office mate expected, cause the theif didn't take all of the money, he only takes about 25% of it expecting that my office mate wont notice it and also the second time around. But now, he already had a talk with the security guards to keep watch at our office during night. He's still leaving money now at his drawer but as a bait.

Not that it really matters, but was this his personal money, or company money? If it was his personal money, why would he leave it at the office? If it is company money, then they are going to have to implement a different kind of system as to how to keep their money safe from thives. I gather there are no video cameras, because the thief was bold enough to break into the drawer. Did he report these incidents?

I have a suspicion that this thief is not from outside your office, sorry to say this but I think there is a big possibility that someone from your colleague has done this act without being noticed or perhaps has done, if you noticed the whole amount was not taken. The best thing to do is that your cashier shouldn't left the cash in your office any more since or she/he must locate a certain place to hide it without the knowledge of anybody. The best way is to report to the police to keep an eye on your place and buy some safety locks.

Sad but true. There's no way it would be an outsider cause our office don't allow outsiders to enter our office, especially at night. Well, our security have been keeping an eye on our office now every night since my office mate has reported this. And he kept it discreet so that the theif office mate will have no idea and hopefully, be captured on the act... It's so annoying that we really can't trust anybody.

Yeah that's right, we also have theft in my own home. It happened many times when our maid takes not only money but also our personal belongings like shoes, bags, combs,...etc. And when she got caught, of course kick her out of our house immediately. It is so irritating to think about it but past is in the past. And we've learned a lesson then so we too are more careful in choosing a maid. We prefer now who is recommended by friends or someone who really has a referral.

Our office is quite save. I always leave my phone on my desk and go out for luch, but never miss it. In stead, when I was in school, I was stolen for several times, and we all know who do that, but just no on expose it.

It is evident there is thief. But better you can complain that to the management.Just suspecting some will not help in this case. But compalining this will make the thief fearful of action.

I think money is the only one in the world every one wants so anyone may steal the money we have to be careful in keeping the money safe. I even lost the money in my hostel i lost it when i was taking bath some criminal opened my personal bag and took the money i noticed it in the evening and i was very unhappy due to that incident from then onwards i kept my money very safe and never this situation happened to me. I mean i did not give chance others to steal my money.

I never leave anything of any importance in my drawers but I would definitely not be leaving money in my desk over night. Take it home so you don't have to worry about it. You also find out whos in the office after everyone leaves or the last one there and try to catch them in the act.

I haven't experience that situation. When I was a college student,I live in a department and we always lost clothes or shoes which were expensive. After that happened,we never keeped our daily necessities out of our room.I think the thief should be blame with that bad habbit. You should call the police when that happen again. For the sake of security of your personal significant things, you should keep them at hand or put them away.

This problem, I think I did not happen, because our company is doing IT network, including a project known as: monitoring systme, in order to display to the customer directly to our professional ream, we have installed a full set of their own monitoring system, therefore, a thief, they dare not come to our company. I suggest that can install a monitoring system or alarm system, when someone in the office, shut down travel from work to open the monitoring system and alarm system.
